Nice, I drove an M35A2 in Korea back in 89-90. But when I was in the National Guard our Motor SGT told us when you engage the low transfer just put it in 1st gear and don't touch the gas pedal the truck will do all of the work (Sand, Mud, Soft Dirt) also I was told for as far as you go in reverse you need to start out in 1st gear the same distance to unwind the Bendix Spring or you can wind up with problems down the road after a while. Just little tips I picked up while in the Army.

With the air shift transfer case you do not need to go from reverse to first.

That's an A2. A3 has super singles on it and has been more than likely repowered with the Caterpillar engine and an automatic transmission because alot of the younger troops don't know how to drive a stick. Mine is a 76 M35A2C it has the drop side bed with the quiet turbo.

The M35A3 and M109A4 literally come with a 3116 Caterpillar. They aren't "likely repowered".And they are way better than the M35A2 and M185/M109A3.Only flaw is no Overdrive and less Speed.

Nice video! I think your truck is actually an M35A2C ... I noticed you have the drop side beds which denotes the "C" for cargo bed.

Even though you chose the soft top I would have opted for the hard top since if the truck is left out in the sun the canvas is prone to quickly dry rot . I know I was in the military for over 20 years and have seen this happen. You should also. see if you can get the winter heater kit along with the winter front package if you plan to use it in extreme cold weather . Otherwise good luck with it and if you also got the 10,20 and 30 driver and technical manuals follow them to a t and you’ll get years of trouble free service from it

Wonderful truck, but its no M35A3; although the box IS an A3's box (fold down sides), the truck is NOT an A3. A3's were converted from A2's with the following changes: 1. headlights were moved to the front of the fenders (from the grill) 2. they were ALL made automatics (so, NO manual gear shift) 3. the winches were changed out for hydraulic winches, if equiped with a winch (NO PTO driven winches) 4. the air filter was relocated to the passenger fender for external access 5. a massive muffler was put on the 'stack' (not just a simple heat sheild like on this 'stack') 6. The front signal lights were mounted onto the top of the relocated headlights 7. The tires were changed to super singles from the thinner 'dually' tires 8. All M35A3s have a C.T.I.S. Control panel attached to and located above the steering column 9. almost ALL (not every one of them, but damn near) had their engines switched out for a Catipillar 3116 (this truck has the LD-465-1, the Catipillar has a flatter wider valve cover with NO oil filler cap) 10. ALL M35A3s had turbos, this particular truck in the video does NOT have a turbo as its an M35A2 (not even an A2C or A2D, just an A2 which don't have turbos, as you can tell by the exhaust note) and many other changes, but these are the most easily recognizable differences between any M35A2 (standard, C or D) and the M35A3. But you still have a fantastic truck, enjoy it, drive it, take care of it (its got its history) and celebrate that you own a VETEREN that has served, your's and many other countries, with distinquished service. There aren't many vehicles, never mind military ones (that are constantly being obsoleted for 'newer, better, faster, stronger') that can claim 50 years of production (1949-1999). The venerable 'Jeep' can't even claim 1/10 of that only having been produced for 4 years and out of service when the M35 was but a mere 'baby' in its existence (as the military version, later on the military 'Jeep' was based on the commercial CJ platform, a different design from the original...and thus unlike the M35s, which remained basically the same truck with some drive train and minor changes, but the truck itself remained the same design from M35 to M35A3) God I want one of these trucks LOL!!! Now...where to park it?

MrRocque park it in your yard like I do. My neighbors are too afraid of me to say anything. The local cop is also a good friend. I work on his vehicles and gave him a Smith and Wesson 640 .357 to carry when he is off duty. It pays to get along with people.

Just to clear it out for you. The M35's came in a couple different Verisons from 1950-1988/1993-1999. 1950-1960 are M35A0 with a OA-331 Gas Job from Reo or Continental,1961-1966 arw all M35A1 with a LDT-427 from Continental,Hercules, and White. The M35A2 comes after the A1 with either a LDS-465 or LDT-465.They went with using the LDT-465 starting in 1970.The M35A3 and M109A4's all came with a 3116 Caterpillar, none of them were "repowered".The only thing the Military did with those Engines after hitting 730 Hours of use was painting them Green for some stupid ass reason as if it were a Detroit Engine.1949 was when Reo developed the Deuce for testing and protos, but the M34 Eagle Beaver came out first. The Deuce was not built for 50 Years, between 1988-1993 as I said, there was a split.

My old m35a2 was a C model. It had the whistler turbo, drop down sides, and had no muffler. You can probably not hear the turbo in this video because the camera might not be able to pick up the high pitched whistle. They are not all the same. And people also mod the heck out of them when they get them sometimes.
