Awesome Marc!! Scored a black 76 Grabber G-3 last year and love it!! Third owner and got a great deal on it! Kiss Alive 1 was my first record so I figured it looked close enough to Gene's Ripper lol! And totally agree with you on Norlin era and Fender too! 76 SG-76 Grabber G-3- 78 LP Standard in Cherry Sunburst ala Ace( I now know it was a Custom lol)- 74 P bass and 75 Black Tele Custom ala Keef among my faves in my squad! Cheers!!

The Late great Bill Lawrence was attached to Gibson during this era and these are his babies....The pickups and the switching set up has his imprimatur all over it. In guitars, he had a hand in the L5-S, L-6S & the Marauder.

I carried one of these on the road with me for a couple of years back in the 70's. Of all the basses I've played, it is truly my favorite (no offense P-bass, but it IS my favorite). Thanks for the review.

You guys in Chicago are real badass, I'm impressed! I'm also amused and actually laughed my way through the entire first (so heavy!) demo. A very amusing presentation, all in all. I'll definitely return for another installment of badass Chicagoan meets wicked guitar and demonic pedal.

  • @Jonathan_Doe_

Possibly not replaced, it’s highly likely the mounting tabs broke off the covers and someone just used the original mounting method because the covers on the newer versions still had the holes to do it.

Had one that I bought in 1975 and used until 1980. I kept flat wounds on it (Gibson Observers). The parallel (#3 position) gave me the biggest sound with decent top end presence and low end extension. Regarding build quality, by the end of the seventies the bridge and bridge pickup could go no lower. Gibson, you suck.
