Ugh … I had a pair of “Sharkys” because it was 1976, I was still reeling from what I’d seen the previous Summer, and I was 10. Mocked MERCILESSLY at school for these and could not wait till I grew out of them.

I disagree with you. I guess it also depends how old you were. You were 10 years old, so it may have been different for you. But I wore this shoe from age 2 years and 8 months old till I was 3 years and 6 months old, and I loved it to death. It was adorable beyond words to me. I'm 46 years old now and out of all the shoes I ever wore in my life, this was easily my 2nd most favorite of all time. The only one I loved more was a Jumping Jacks tie lace saddle oxford like shoe I had at age 3, right after I wore these. I was born in mid 1976 but I wore these shark shoes in 1979. My local children's shoe bootery was an outlet store that sold mostly Jumping Jacks shoes but also Buster Brown and other shoe brands. I've always hated sneakers, by comparison. I love the color of these leather shoes too, I always called it burnt orange. The Jumping Jacks shoe I had was also burnt orange. This was my first real low cut shoe. Before I wore this I wore high top boots. Loved the wedge soles. This shoe started my shoe fixation. I also have loved T strap shoes and Mary Janes since I was in kindergarten in 1981 when I first saw them on classmates that were little girls. I always wanted a burnt orange T strap shoe with a wedge sole! I'm from the West Coast, but in places like Alabama and the Deep South, it isn't uncommon for little boys to wear T strap shoes with longalls or jon jons, especially to church (most of them under age 5, though). I was so excited to wear these as a toddler / preschooler. I wore these to nursery school too in Fall 1979. Loved these a lot. I never even found out they were Buster Brown until I saw it on eBay last May after looking for them 20+ years on eBay. I always thought they were by Jumping Jacks. I would be happy to show you photos of me wearing these shoes, if you'd like to see, as a toddler. Take care - Codi Preston D.

@@sinbad799 So sorry to hear that. If it makes you feel any better, my mom wouldn't let me have the Bigfoot shoes when they came out b/c they were Earth shoes, and she insisted they were bad for my feet. I got CU Lators instead.

How sad for you. I wore Sharky as a toddler / preschooler and loved it to death. Easily one of my most favorite shoes I ever wore. Even though I was not even 3 when I started wearing these in 1979, I have a firm memory of myself wearing these on multiple occasions, it was my everyday shoe. I wore it to nursery school too. Loved the burnt orange color of the leather and the wedge sole. I have Autism so maybe I have stronger memories. But my mom remembers me wearing these too. I would wear these even as an adult now if they came in my size. I mean the Sharky. They may have made this in an adult size. They definitely did with the Chaws. I saw one on eBay that was a size 9 ladies about 10 years ago! LOL. The wedge rubber sole on the Sharky is very different than the rubber sole on the Chaws though. Chaws isn't quite as cute as Sharky. 😁 - Codi Preston D.

I'm sure you were disappointed, Sinbad. I think the Chaws could be for boys too and the Sharky could be for girls too in theory. Loved my burnt orange Sharky shoes as a toddler. That started my entire shoe interest - though just with these kinds of shoes and saddle shoes, and led me to T strap shoes at age 5. I never wore T strap shoes as a child but always wanted some. The leather color screams late 1970s, retro, psychedelic, trippy. LOL. This was a common color for house carpets too then in the late 70s / early 80s. These wedge sole shoes are almost nearly Earth shoes! The front bottom is almost higher than the back. T strap shoes with wedges are cool too, but I haven't seen kids wear that since the mid 1980s when I was a child myself. - Codi Preston D.

I wore the burnt orange (labeled as tan colored by Buster Brown) Sharky as a preschooler for a year and I thought my shoes were adorable and looking back, I myself was adorable at that point. I think children generally look the cutest around age 3 and I was no exception in 1979 when I was that age. - Codi Preston D.
