Amazing that I could remember this from when I was 4 years old. What has stayed in my brain all these years is "Mr. Spock disappears!". Of course, we had this set.

I used to have a Meco Star Trek Tricorder, which was a stylized tape recorder. I was 12 back then. Side A on the tape had clips from the first 3 episodes, and Side B was blank, so I could record my own adventures. So much fun. One can see a Meco Star Trek Communicator (a stylized walkie talkie) in the KZread clip "The Kids From C.A.P.E.R."

classic 70s sales illusion.A giant bolder is used between transporter activities to provide the notion that the plaset is alot bigger than it actually is. Thanks for posting

The commercials were fun to watch. Glad we grew up in this tactile era before smartphones.

I had these figures and the Enterprise when I was a kid. Bought another old Spock and Kirk mint in package from a toy dealer back in the 90s and still have them now. Orginal ones not the reproductions.

@Sheri451 I discovered TAS first back in '73, before TOS was syndicated. Imaging the shock of a 6 year, to see a favorite Saturday morning cartoon in TOS live action, lol

For what it's worth, TOS had already in syndication for several years when TAS premiered. It's popularity in syndication was part of the reason the animated series was even made.

The playset was the first thing I got; long before the action figures... I don't know why the playset was available; first and the action figures to awhile later to hit stores... It's funny; now that I'm grown; I'm in awe at how much playset cost; now.... I was watching that Toy Story Christmas Special... And all I could do was tabulate how much that kid's parents spent on four playsets with all those action figures; each sold separately and to top it off that kid also had a video game console for Christmas; too... It would've taken birthdays and Christmases for me to get all of that; many birthdays and Christmases... I don't remember how much the Star Trek playset cost when I was a kid in the 70's... but it was low enough for my parents to let me put it in the shopping cart without it being my birthday or Christmas and then the same much later with the action figures...

True enough. At the time the live-action syndication was not airing in my area. I was exposed to TAS first, The syndication came out later that same year. My Dad, was an Trek fan, got me hooked on the series. Besides, seeing a sci-fi show airing, besides Space:1999 with a multiracial crew, was a rare sight back then. ;-)

@zeus5566 Nah- sold separately. I had this set when I was a kid. Kirk, Spock, Uhura, Scotty and the Klingon were easy to find back then. Bones was not. :(

@Neville6000 Yes! They are beautifully done too! They added Sulu and Chekov, 2 figure Mego never produced...and a great Khan figure as well...

Loved these ads from Mego, which made selling Star Trek sound like real macho kids stuff, but the show was meant to be seen as compelling sci-fi, blah blah blah. But when you're a kid you can't wait for the episode where Kirk gets to kick Klingon butt. So it's kinda fun playing with toys from a TV show that, when you're a grown up, was deeper than it looked. Imagine if Mego did....THE FOUNDATION playset! Featuring poseable Psycho-historians! Hari Seldon, the ultimate hero trying to save the Foundation from certain doom! (Three laws of robotics not included! Your parents put the whole 1000 mile long station together!)

Notice the kids are actually playing with it OUTSIDE. What a concept. Ah, the days befor video games when kids actually used thier bodies for something other than getting fat.
