It was my high school graduation present, to attend this specific race. Drove from Virginia to California in 46 hours. (Speed limit on the interstate was 55, but truckers kept us safe. CB radio era) Great time. Still have the ticket stub and my Kodak pictures. Then, we drove back to Virginia and watched it again, one week later, on the Wide World of Sports. The tech inspection was actually done at a mall in Los Angeles. DeCoster, Wolsink, Brad Lackey.....great trip.

I was at this race with my dad. We drove down from WA state As a young motocross racer it was so cool watching an American lead the race for several laps. Marty Smith dominated the 250cc class. RIP dad, Marty and Carlsbad raceways. Coolest thing I ever did with my dad!!

US Grand Prix‘s at Carlsbad were always awesome, featured by ABC wide world of sports. Me and my buddy were CZ freaks. We were rooting for Rex Staten, I actually found that exact bike and restored it, and Rex raced it a few years ago at the CZ Well Championship’s.

BTW, the music is pretty good ... sometimes I don't care for videos like this to be solely accompanied by music, but you made it work.

WOW! Great job with this and thanks for the memories. This was the first BIG Pro MX race that my Pop surprised me by agreeing to drive myself and my best friend at the time from the city of Burbank, in the San Fernando Valley, down to Carlsbad for this event. Sadly, my good friend, Dave, was tragically killed in an off-road rollover accident two years after this race. My Pop passed away eighteen months ago. But, this day, 6/22/1975 is one of the most memorable days of my adolescences life. Thanks again : )

Wow! You have some really important pieces of the puzzle that is the archive of this great sport! Thanks so much for sharing all of these great videos. Videos of the sports early days are rare, more so the further you go back…. Of course my favorite period is the “works bike” era from about 1976-1986. The bikes were changing so much every year and some of the factory works bikes were art to my eyes.

Hey thanks for posting. I'm amazed at what appears to be a huge crowd in attendance. It seems that outdoor motocross was quite popular! I'm not too enamored with this indoor supercross thing. Seems that in supercross, the bikes only need 1 or 2 gears cuz they never really "get going". We can only hope that one day supercross will become illegal and we can get back to real motocross!

Sadly, the only part of that track that is still visible is the starting area. The rest was bulldozed and an industrial park built on it.
