Man, this was my first real motorcycle. I loved it, I rode it everywhere, In 1977, I graduated to a CR125, and the rest is history.
I've got a 74 my 250 I'm still working on it but it's close to running.
1974, I was 16 and wanted a dirt bike. Everyone was buying TS 185's but I rode one and it felt odd. Like I was sitting on top of it. Then I sat on an MT125 at the dealers and it fit. I was " in " the bike. The test ride disappointed me. The bike was " peaky " but had less power than I had hoped for. I went home and dug out my copies of " Dirt Bike " magazine which was the go to in those days. There was a test of 4 125 dirt bikes. Yamaha, Kawasaki, Can Am and Honda MT 125. Suzuki didn't give them one to test as it was rubbish anyway. The Honda came out best except for the power issue. I checked some more and a mechanic told me that CR125 barrels were interchangeable. So I went and bought the MT 125, after school on a friday, and bought a CR125 barrel, piston and expansion chamber to go with it. A few hours work and running on premix ( no oil feed hole in the CR barrel ) and I was hooning around the field at the back of the house feeling like the world had changed for me. That bike was FAST ! On the next monday on the way to school I pulled up next to a classmate riding his TS 185. He looked at my bike and laughed. Fool. I left him choking in the smoke and he never laughed again. When people noticed the black barrel on an otherwise brown engine they called me a cheater. I couldn't have cared less.

Not a cheater. A genius more like it. I had the 74cr Elsinore 125. Great bike. Really enjoyed your story. Hi from Brisbane Australia 🎉🎉🎉
Your honesty and detail oriented descriptions are a breath of fresh air. Almost a lost art. It is always a pleasure to listen to you describe the conditions!
My 1st bike ever when I was 12 yrs old. It was a great bike.........
That bike is in amazingly great shape it brings back memories of what id see in Honda dealerships back in the early mid 1970's , those Elsinores were very hot bikes on the off road motorcycling scene back then.
that old can am was bad ass looking bike in front of your desk
Has an excellent sound note. Love it🎉🎉🎉
In 1975 I had a CT70 thought it was the most fun I was in 6 th grade. My 8th grade neighbor played hooky from school. When our bus dropped me off my neighbor Bill was at our bus stop doing donuts with his brand new MT 125. He took me for a ride doing 68 mph down our long bumpy dirt road. Never had seen my eyes water from speed until that day, lol Holly cow this bike is exact and premier condition. MW
Realy miss the simple days when you could do most of the work on a bike your self with basic tools,
Back in 1974 when i was seventeen i had sort of stolen my personal bank book from out of my fathers dresser draw that he was holding for me just so that i did not act on impulse and do things like this. I had swiped the bank book one day when he was at work and had taken a taxi cab down to the Honda dealership and had purchased a new 1974 Honda MT-125, when my father had found out about it before the bike was delivered to the house he had taken a fit and threatened the dealership with legal action for selling to a minor if they refused to give back the money. They gave him back the money and one year later at age eighteen i had done the same thing again this time purchasing a new Honda CB-360-T when my parents had gone on vacation , by this time i had earned my MC learners permit and soon was to pass my road test, so my father had allowed me to keep the bike .
I knew those were stock tires, but that’s a crazy engine color. Had you not pointed it out I never would’ve known.

Yes, the CR models were black. So if you swapped out the barrrel for a CR one, everyone could tell. Gave you lots more horsepower............
I've got one just like it, I ride it once in a while. The low beam is out on mine too.
I totally had that bike. What a dog. I swapped the motor and trans from a wrecked CR125 and made it a ripper.

All you had to do was change the barrel and carb from a CR125. They bolted straight on. So did the exhaust flange but the air box inlet flange had to be widened. What gave it away was the different colour, brown vs. Black.

Yep, weakest bike I ever owned. Couldn’t get the front end off the ground with a forklift

@@donsinisi7369 the MT125 generally a sluggish bike?
I bought this bike in 74 went to get the CR but my mom talked me into getting the MT because I was turning 16 and could drive it to school. Still regret that decision for About $70 more could have had a CR, back then we all rode trails and hill climbs this bike was absolutely no good as an Enduro really high geared for street and no power for the dirt and hills. Within 2 months stripped all lights and anything else I didn't need, put a big webber head on it a CR expansion chamber and CR rear shocks bigger rear sprocket pretty sure had it bored out with different piston. Anyway you see were I'm going with this should have bought a CR, all in all though gave me a few yrs of terrific memories with my friends and you really can't beat that but to this day wished I'd bought the CR 😒

Yes, I had the same feeling about the power. But a CR barrel and expansion chamber fixed that and I could still ride it to school. No-one laughed at my bike after I blew off a school mates TS 185 like it was standing still.
How much did she sell for? Thanks for the video.
Oh yeah
Is it still for sale I'm interested
The black line on tank are not in the good place
