Here is my friend Greg’s 1974 Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham. He bought the car back in 1982 and has used it almost every day as his normal car. It has the big 472 cubic inch V8 and the ride is sublime. Which year Fleetwood is the best? Please Comment, Like and Subscribe.

Hi Gerard, long time, no see!! Gerard I never thought back then I'd keep it forever, I bought it to replace my 22month old WB Caprice that had been stolen, and I wasn't sure whether I would buy another one if when parked somewhere away from home it would be stolen. In my last years at Mosman High school when we moved to Rosevill I used to catch the bus there 10 miles to school each day. Arnold Glass who at that point had been the Nissan/Datsun UD diesel truck franchisee for Australia, NZ, PNG & sth Africa had just lost it & started Capitol Motors & Glass's Guides. He dropped a school girl off each morning in his Sable grey/brown & Grey roofed MK3 Lincoln Conti' same as the one in movie French Connection. then after the May '71 kids holidays he had a new Caddy & had always liked Glass's 1971 model. His was the first one of this new body style I had seen, and I like the extremely curved side glass and the central roof pillar that just leans ever so slightly backwards. My first WB was Metallic Claret red with bone leather seats a 1980 only color. I bought in a strange way a new 1984 Asteroid silver with Cerulean velour series2 Caprice and still kept the Cadillac and my LWB 1974 series1 Jag XJ6 also pretty colours Regency (claret)red & bone leather. The long wheelbase ser1's have a taller roof so it's not right on your head with BMC-Leyland and their giant share purchase they told the Jag guys for the series2 cars you are not having the dearer taller glass for the LWB car. So to me they looked like they were sat on by an elephant & squashed. Offered big dollars for it so I sold Jag & my first car, 1958 FC Holden. Replaced both these with my 1965 Galaxie as it was like new. When Georgina & I split up she kept the Caprice & me the Caddy & the Galaxie . GH

Nice, thanks for the video, brought memories My Granddad had a 74 Fleetwood, Silver with blue leather and vinyl top. He didn't get the Airbag option, because he thought they might go off if he went over a bump or just biumped into something.. He hated the interlock system, it was the first year for it in The US, people in the front seat had to buckle up in order for the engine to start.he like many people had it disconnected, they only had it for the 1974 model year. It didn't have rear shoulder belts, but they were a GM option in 1977.

That “501” on the label under the hood has nothing to do with displacement. It’s the Environmental Protection Agency designation number for this “family” of General Motors engines.

That’s interesting. I didn’t know that as I thought it was the family of engines based on the 472 block released in the 1968 model year. Ford has a similar approach with the 351/400 engine series. Appreciate the feedback. Please subscribe for more old car videos.

What an amazing story wow! One could spend hours talking abou it! Even though I was born in the 1980's I hate to research what a Dictaphone was lol (like audio recorder), So what did the original owner do in Australia? Just retired here...? Interesting he decided to part with it.. Maybe he decided that such car was too big for him as he was getting older...?

Hi Ivano, to begin its first owner Maurice Ullyatt had retired here and was living at Dover Heights with his daughter whom by her style was an early "yuppie" & a Mercedes Benz driver. His daughter had operated the Australian sales office etc, for his business in Germany. He had a stroke while backing it out of a car space in Grace Brothers department store in Bondi Junction, Sydney. He damaged the driver's exterior mirror and the right-side exhaust manifold by erroneously going over a concrete directional "log" on the ground & striking a roof support pier with the door mirror breaking the "head" off its pedestal. His wife could not drive, in September 1982 he was 83 years old. Ivano when I looked at the car first time I took my maternal grandfather, he was an Industrial engineer. It sounded like an exhaustless formula one car with the wrecked manifold others had looked at it but walked away re the manifold, there were NO special Right Hand Drive cast pig iron manifolds left in GM Holdens spare parts stock. As due to RHD steering we have unique GM-H Aust Cadillacs, the wiring is different and more heavy duty to be compliant to local Aussie government rules, plus a host of other differences to suit local requirements. My white 1972 Fleetwood that is a GM-H Aust CKD kit car (completely knocked down) put into crates as parts like a child's glue together & paint toy car for adults!! Pa winked at me re the price to beat it down re the manifold but, he had prior stated to me, he could make me something better in a "flash". My grandad was just a couple of months younger than the seller, but healthier. The original owner in his Osnabrück then West Germany factory made all the carpets and curtains & drapes you find in the Giant buildings in Wall St New York, George St Sydney, and in the government buildings & Parliaments around the globe. Re the Dictaphone, that is just part of it, the radio mast for this car when I bought it was & is in the front windscreen glass, same as my white 1972 model Cadillac (check my mate Mark Behr's channel & you will find 2 videos on that car too). I have placed a link aerial connector to the mudguard mast as it gives better country road reception, than the one in the windscreen. However, the REAL reason for the mast is that the Dictaphone is just part of an Blaupunkt "Mobile Office Pack" which is basically a two-way HF & UHF radio system which will record messages at either end and give continuous FREE communication back to your office in the pre-mobile phone days. At one point many years ago before & during the early big "house brick" size mobile phone days I actually had it set up in my office for that exact intended purpose. And in my own office at Bondi Junction, I could be on level 11 underground and had entirely clear reception, in the Sydney underharbour tunnel there is/was no dropout like there is with a new digital mobile phone. Back then years ago if I had been away for work in country/rural New South Wales I had clear reception anywhere even if venturing into southern Queensland, or Western Victoria which in both instances a 2,000 kilometres. Here Aussies use HF (high frequency) and UHF (ultra high frequency) in the bush when doing remote 4-wheel drive holidays, or, at sea on a yacht. It's a FANTASTIC thing to drive and Ivano , every time I get in & start & drive it I get the same satisfaction as I did on the 7th of September '82 when I first bought it, having owned it for 10 near 11 years, I thought if something happened to it where would I find another when you wanted one, hence buying the then 19,000mile white one it's first female owner had been stingy with servicing and I think it was washed but never polished. But it was genuine one owner proper aussie RHD car, not a horrible after sales RHD conversion. I did my research & the guy who did all the servicing of my black car after it came to Australia Frank Tonitto, said it was an excellent car besides the parking lot mirror & manifold damage as when GM Australia, in their Pagewood Sydney plant ceased all USA CKD kit cars in July 1974 the guys doing the builds were mostly let go, however the man in charge by the surname of Ritchie, bought all the equipment, forge press dyes, presses themselves etc for the RHD GM cars he & his men dismantled my car & rebuilt it as a proper GMH-A RHD car, using all GM factory made parts , eg the longer right side wiper arm the RHD plastic wood dash panels, right side step on parking brake system, the rear Australian taillight & amber blinker/directional light units, the metal RHD accelerator cable tube, the RHD gear shift mechanism bars hinge joints, and the Unique RHD steering drag links. The Aussie Fleetwood's were all ABS brake system cars, so brake unit stayed left side, but had GMH-A behind dash RHD pedal box & relay to left side master cylinder pressure plate. Years ago I stocked up on some of the more unique parts, so that if I needed them in the future, I had my own supply and for both of my two cars. When GMH-A wanted to quit their inventory of unique Aussie RHD parts my mate Frank Tonitto bought basically all of them. Additionally when Ford Aust' did the same thing for their Galaxie, Thunderbird & Lincoln unique Aussie RHD parts, Frank and Gardiners Ford bought near 50/50 % each of the Ford inventory, as much of the USA car bits will not fit or are way different.
