1973 Porsche 911 Targa (UPDATE) // Viper Green 1973 911T

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Update on my 1973 Porsche 911T Targa since it's been at the body shop for some time now. This car was a race car that was used as a vintage race car most of its life! Not many people have ever used a 911 targa for a race car.
I started out planning to do all the metal work and restore this car myself. Ended up being more of a project than I wanted to try and tackle on my own. Perfect Lines Restoration in Van Nuys California is doing the metal work, then I'll put it back together once they're finished.
Thanks for watching and I hope you enjoy

That was an amazing explanation of what’s required to get the car straight. Thumbs up my friend. And, Viper Green is the bomb.

Thanks man, this is the first time I’ve seen an old 911 cut up, straighten and put back together. It’s awesome you are scheduling regular shows. We can definitely see your progress, documentary narratives are the key to engagement. Where are we going and why?

Man, so happy to get a Targa update and I can't wait to hear the Olive/body shop story. I do think that if you don't paint it, you may regret it seeing as the car is already apart. I'm on the fence about having my SC painted due to the body shop horror stories, I dealt with body shops for about 20 years and I'm not very trusting, plus that's a can of worms I just can't afford right now.

Paint/body really is a nightmare. It’s almost worth it to just sell and buy a different car ha

Wow lot of work gone into the targa. Great to find guys that do good work that you can trust. Do love the colour but if you just paint the doors they are very difficult to match the paint, it always shows.

Amazing simply amazing , the guy’s at Perfect Lines look like they are pro’s and I doubt they would allow you in to document your experience with them on video unless they have a reputation for being a professional shop. As I’ve said before I’m a 39 year master mechanic and have great respect for the body shop guys ( we’re two different wings of the same bird). Take care and let me know if you need a place to store your white 911, I know a garage close to Jocko’s and it won’t get driven much and it would be closer to Laguna Seca. I hope you realize I’m only kidding,it’s hard to interpret when texting anyway have a great day and thanks again for giving an old mechanic a nice break in my day. 👍👍🏽🙏😎

I’ve just been through the same pain with my targa (it was straight but rusty) - unfortunately the pain doesn’t stop after the body work. Bringing a racer back to street car condition is a LOT of work!

A lot of work for sure. Luckily I’ve got a rebuild engine, trans, and all the wiring for the lights, and what not was left in the car. Still going to be a lot of work, of course. But it’s worth it.

Tom on the AhhGarageTime channel here on KZread straightened out his 911 with some factory measurements & some string & some barbells (in his home garage). it’s worth checking out. he’s a machanical engineer tho.
