I remember this commercial! Took me back to 1973. I wonder how quiet a well-preserved '73 LTD would be today.

As someone with a Ford LTD that runs and drives with 40,000 miles it’s very loud

I had a 1968 Ford Galaxy which was the older type version of the LTD shown. It was a very quiet type of car. These high end type cars are made with sound proofing insulation inside the doors, floor, roof, under the hood, and so-on. The windows are double laminated to have very high density type glass. When driving on the streets you normally don't hear anything outside of the car. With snow tires, if you listen very carefully when on dry pavement you may slightly hear the threads of the tires because their vibration is coming up through the suspension to the frame. If you have a large Diesel truck next you, you may have some of the vibration coming in to the car because of the massive low frequency vibration from the truck's engine. When in traffic you may hear the loud siren from an emergency vehicle when it comes within a few hundred feet to your vehicle, because these types of sirens are at over 140 dB at 1 meter sound pressure. Essentially, these types of luxury cars are extremely quiet and smooth.

Ford and their advertising agency got in trouble with the FTC for suggesting that a glider in flight was "quiet" and also for another 1971 commercial which suggested that the safety beams in the doors were as strong as those used on a highway.

If to accelerate a car, and then to stop its engine?
