The “Camper Special” package was offered by Ford on their heavy duty trucks for people who wanted to, of course, put a camper in the bed! You got things like dual tanks, heavy duty rear springs which rake the truck a bit more than normal, lower rear gears, and in many cases a CB Radio to finish it out.
This is a pretty unique truck that we have had a great time getting back to its former glory and road worthiness. Any time you have an old truck that has sat for quite a long time, you really should go through all the major systems to make sure that you won’t have any problems down the road and to get it driving as well as possible.
We checked this truck over from top to bottom, making sure it had strong spark, clean fuel system, new fluids, and a very thorough detail inside and out from our expert detail department. It is possible to over-detail one of these trucks and hurt the value. We like to clean, buff, and seal every square inch of the paint, shampoo and recondition seats/carpets/floors, and rid the engine bay of all dirt and grime.
However, we like to avoid painting anything unless warranted for protecting raw metal surfaces or components. Things are only original once, and painting everything in sight black is a common mistake some people may make as it can be an indication to some that it was done to hide something even when there is nothing to hide.

They just don’t make ‘em like they used to, doesn’t matter if it’s a Ford, Chevy, or a Dodge. Any older truck from the Big 3 have a special place in my heart.

Ford produced those 6th gen F-series pickups from 73 - 79 & the 2nd gen Broncos from 78 - 79. The optional supercab pickups came out in 74 & in 75, the F-150 pickups came which were optional heavy duty half tons at the time because the base F-100 pickups were still in production. 78 was the first year for square shaped headlamps which came standard on the Ranger models & 78 was also the last year for round shaped headlamps which were on the Custom models. In 79, all of the models had square shaped headlamps.

Does your truck have bias ply's? Nothing like getting a flat spot on the bias ply tire to rattle your teeth until it smoothes out.

Don't the Camper Special models of that generation have the longer 140" wheelbase?
