Really found this one interesting. What a challenge. Its really cool that Jen gets so excited about the project as well. Keep those vid's coming.
No arrogance, humble and doesn't have the need to make viewers laugh at corny things. Very refreshing, very much appreciate your instructional content. Keep it up.
Those old 454s are a beast. My step dad had an early 80s with no cat and I had a jetski that took 110 octane (low-lead) premixed fuel. Well, he ran that 2 stroke premixed 110 octane with lead and the thing just ran like nothing. Also, welcome to the west coast/desert. You'll find lots of old vehicles with no rust. My 05 Sierra and 05 Ram both have no rust while others on the east coast have rotted rockers, cab corners, bedsides, etc.
Man your woman is a keeper bro, out here supporting your dreams and hobbies and keeping a smile on her face the whole time.

Chris this is my favorite Will it Run episode and I’ve seen em all. Crazy how much you did with just hand tools! And that old suburban is really sweet.
Chris and Jens general confusion and lack of interest in the Tesla is my favorite part of this video
Nice save from that resting place. Fun to see your wife goes along and like it.
My first car was the family hand-me-down 1977 Chevy Suburban 3/4 ton 454. What a monster :) Back when you could put any kind of fuel except diesel in it to run. I don't care how de-tuned they were or anything else, that ride will always be my favorite. Thanks for the trip down memory lane.

I grew up with one of these as well. My dad had it to haul his stock car and for family trips.
You drove a testiclela to a auto parts store. Bought 20 gallons of oil products and chemicals to get a 454 Chevy to run. THAT DID IT!!!!!!! Liked and subscribed. : )

At least with old-school cars and trucks. Fuel injection and OBD2 systems are a whole different breed for the most part. But the basics are still the same at least like spark, compression, fuel, etc, etc.
Man do I learn a lot of tricks from you Chris! The decades of your hard work really shows in these videos. You would think every “will it run” video would be the same but there not. I really appreciate you sharing all the trade secrets that you’ve learned. Back in the day, no senior mechanic would share his tips and tricks with any young guy in fear that young guy, being me, might take his job one day….at least that has been my experiences being 53yrs old….I’m definitely old school. Things have definitely changed over the generations. Thanks again👍 And my thoughts and and prayers are with you, Jen and the little man Gus. I love the fur baby 😄….A gift from God❤️😊
No way that was an hour! I just got motivation to get my 2002 suburban running. Thanks Chris!
Wow, it's amazing to see you taking on the challenge of restoring and fixing a classic car like the 1973 Chevy Suburban 454! It takes a lot of dedication, patience, and skill to bring an older vehicle back to life, and you should be proud of yourselves for taking on such a rewarding project. As you work on restoring and fixing your Suburban, remember that every step you take is bringing you closer to your goal of a fully functional and beautiful vehicle. There may be times when the work feels overwhelming or frustrating, but keep pushing through and don't give up! You'll learn so much along the way and develop valuable skills that you can apply to future projects. And when you finally get to drive your Suburban down the road, feeling the power of the engine and the wind in your hair, you'll know that all of your hard work was worth it. Keep up the great work and enjoy the journey!
Dang this is maybe the greatest comeback revival vid I've seen. Starting with that dust caked engine bay, a stuck crank, and when the distributor didn't spin I had to check the video runtime cuz I thought for sure a very different end to the video would be near. Amazing persistence through the desert rain!!
Great job guys. Hope you get it home!
I sure admire your stick-with-itness! Just one setback after another and you kept slugging on through! That's one solid Suburban. You couldn't find one that good 25 years newer here in Ontario. I just couldn't believe the lack of rust even in the brakes! And with the 454/400 combo it'll tow a barn. Good save.
My first video from y’all and I’m a fan, I got to say I like how you actually show the work you do and take the time to explain it all, thank you.
I miss Gus. Can't wait to see him out on the river this summer. Have a safe trip!

Those were some good people you were dealing with. I love how Jenn is all smiles the whole time. The Suburban is my favorite. You seem like a great guy and I like the content so far. Earned a sub.
I LOVE that you bring gus on all your adventures, whoever said to leave him home is wrong. He gets to see the world and be with his mom and dad all day. Way better than being without mom and dad for all that time. He loves it too, you can tell when your dog hates something and Gus man does NOT hate these adventures. Hes a good boy. Also, love these south west will it run and drive home adventures. I hope you do these a lot more in the future.
Hardest working pair on the tube, you doing an amazing work AND keeping it interesting all a long. Love it and subscribe it.

I was impressed with your ingenuity on getting the stuck cam/valve train to spin to line up the timing gears and also the rocker stud shim trick to bypass the groove worn in it. Nicely done! Can't wait to see if the Suburban can make it to PA!
Just about the same time this old girl got parked, I got my 1999 3/4T, 454 Suburban and had it for a wonderful 16 years and drove it almost 400,000 miles! Truly the best vehicle I have ever owned to this day (66 and counting). I wish you all the luck (you'll need it to drive it home) should you choose to follow through! Amazing problem solving on the fly and with no tools in hand. Really impressed with all the obstacles you hurdled in 3 days! Count me as another SUBSCRIBER!

It looked a dawdle but turned out to be a pain. The big man sussed it out as usual. Great work, brilliant channel.
I bought a 67 Chevy Impala from it's 1st owner and he was a believer in marvel mystery oil. Every oil change he would use it and once a month in the gas. When I sold it the new owner brought the engine to work with the heads off. They looked like they were brand new!!! Cylinder wals perfect. Only a little wear! The engine has 117.000 miles and looked like it had 5000 miles!!! Not kidding!

So admire your persistence, fortitude and skills..You would have been such an asset on the wagon trains..It's your can do attitude, priceless, well done. Made America Great..!
I love videos like this, just watching someone work on a car as if I was the Kid watching a dad work on a car and learning along the way.
If it were me, I’d vote to throw jb weld on that intake, and start the trip home, if it starts drinking water, see if you can find another intake and throw it on. I love the mad max style of repairs. I know you could get that thing home, you have the skills to do it. The only question in my mind is if you want to do it during your vacation. I can’t wait for the next update.
@superbeeblaze
Жыл бұрын
definitely a replacement situation not jb weld lol. Jb weld isnt going to work sticking to more corrosion. What happens when it leaks, now youre on the road with no intake manifold available... And limping it along isnt going to work since its going to put water directly into the oil, not burn it in the cylinders....
Great to see Jen in the video. She's good help and doesn't mind getting her hands dirty . Gus is a great supervisor. Love this old rig.
Dude I frieken love your videos. Cant get enough of the fly n drives! I understand they are a complete pain in the ass and not something you can do once a month, but when you do, they are so good! Most people woulda thrown in the towel when the distributor wasnt spinning. I'm sure there's plenty of mechanics that can get an old rig running, but with limited tools, on the other side of the country, in a dust bowl, you have the skill and the will! I love the MacGuyver, figure out a way with what I got, kind of approach you take, and Jen is such a trooper! You guys can turn a crap situation into an amazing adventure every time. We appreciate you!
I know very little about auto mechanics. But I watched every second of your video. Very entertaining.
You never disappoint brother,my nerves woulda been wrecked having those issues in my driveway let alone across the country. Sending her to get you some gas in a tesla, well played.
You guys are so fun to watch. I love the adventure road trip feel and all the fixes along the way!
Yep I'm the one who started the conversation about the groove in the rotors. Factory GM rotors had a groove in the middle. Just like the Monte Carlo! 😁
Loved this! My dad had a ´73 when I was getting old enough to really get into cars and engines, it was one of the first cars I ever drove when being about 10 years old. (not in traffic, of couse) I have fond memories of crawling around that engine bay. Too bad you ran into some obstacles with this one! But I'm positive you'll sort it out. Thanks for uploading!
