1973 Celica Restoration (the $150 parts car) part 1

This Is part One of my current restoration project. The car is a 1973 Toyota celica that I purchased for $150 The first time I saw one of these was in a junk yard looking for parts for a different car I was working on. There was not much left of that car at the wrecker but enough of it there to know I liked what I saw. So over the next ten years I looked locally to find one of these classic celicas. I ended up with a pair of Celica's, one came from 20 minutes away in the next town. I started to work on the first car when a friend sent me a kijiji link for this car In the video I intended to use it for parts assuming it would be in worse shape than my first one. I was surprised to see it was more solid than my current project. So it became the car that I would work on. It had no title as it came from an estate sale of a hoarder. The previous owner who accuired the estate property was awesome and got me a title made up for the car. Follow along with this part one video which consists of metal fabrication and parts sourcing and the first drive/start. I will up date the project as more stuff happens on it.

WOW! That much fabrication screams "MERCY AND HONOR FOR NEARLY A GONNER !". Excellent effort. Remarkable work. Outstanding footage too.

The day you spend hours looking up every old car you ever had and feel so sad they aren't still in your garage....

Thanks for the memories. My first car was a beast, 1968 Cadillac Sedan DeVille. Great for drive in movies. Second was a 1973 Toyota Celica St. I loved that car. I put some beautiful pinstripe work on it. I customized the carburetor. I went to the drag races quite often in San Antonio. On a dare I entered my Celica. I dial in perfect. I still remember my time--16.78 seconds. I took 2nd. I would have finished 1st. But, a guy brought a 74 Nova SS that he wanted to test out. Every time I got close he'd goose it to stay just ahead of me. Jusy nawt right. Anyway I enjoyed your video. Thank you

Simply beautiful, the time and effort is amazing. I just purchased a 76 gt liftback for $100 and will need the exact metal work you are doing. I was going to sell it but this gives me great hope. Keep it up

A friend of mine had one of these back in the day. With some help from some of my other friends and I, he ended up with a pretty nice street machine.

Pretty cool sheet metal fabrication skills. Buying flat sheet metal is way cheaper than expensive aftermarket panels that won't fit without extensive fabrication anyway.

Amazing restoration almost 70% of the entire car chassis rusted that you can make new ones from those rusty parts. thumb ups 👍👍

WOW! That brings back memories. I had a 74 Celica GT in High School and College. Same bumperettes, GT emblem on honeycomb grill, 3D version of the taillights compared to the flat version that you installed. Very, very cool! Thanks for sharing and looking forward to watching the other parts to this build.

I never thought I would so much, But It's really got me wanting one of these lately. More so the 'Mustang' Version, the GTV or GT 2000 version with the twin cam 18RG engine. Better start looking before the prices go through the roof or they all get snapped up.
