So very cool to see this again!! 😎 Up in the stands at the top end was a really butthurt 10yr old Snake fan, namely ME! 😠 LOL! It was a great weather day, little cool, but that make's Great HP & therefore, between that and what was the best track surface in the all of drag-racing & the record's fell! With the Goose getting put on the truck early, it was a bad day for the "Wildlife" Drag-Racing Team" but a great day of racing happened anyway & infact, this is the drag-race that made Big Jim Dunn a Legend! Thanks for posting this, it made my day! 🙏

As a Midwesterner this was one of my only chances to see drag racing in California and it certainly made an impression on me. Probably why I took the time to do the original film editing.

@@gordonwd I for one, am very happy that you did, this was very cool to see again! It's funny how time plays with a person memories of event's, I totally remember Snake losing, but completely forgot about his black cuda! LOL, but when I saw it here, it all flooded back to me! 😏 Thank's again!

This is beautiful... the way its shot, from the spectator view is exactly what i love to see. THATS How you see the power and energy of these cars... the higher up views and angles are great for the general public/tv, but this is just way more gorgeous. Legendary

Thanks. I shot this during a weekend that I had tacked onto a business trip that I made to CA that year. For a Midwest drag fan it was like going to Mecca and I still remember the thrill of just being there in an unfamiliar desert-like environment and warm temperatures.

Holy f* shit this is nuts Doug. I was there, the 12 yo with taped glasses annoying the crap out of everyone pretending to be a reporter with his little cassette recorder. I probably still have the tape somewhere in a box, along with ones of family members farting and similar treasured moments. Nice job sir, carry on.

Man,you and my Dad ,thankfully shot these films ,I go crazy because of the silence! The footage that my Dad shot at Lions was used in the DVD Lions The Greatest Drag Strip, they just put audio to it,the first couple minutes is a close up of a Slingshot Digger at night with flames shooting out of the headers ,and it looks great so they put some sound to it! This is still great to see! I was 4 when my Dad would take for rides in his 68 AMC AMX and go racing,I didn't know what was happening but I liked it,and that was it! I got my own 69 AMX with the go pack ,390 bored to 401 with msd ignition, and other goodies,it sounds great.Anyway ,Thanks for shooting this and posting it,it is like going back in time!

Thanks for the comments! Maybe I'll get around to putting up some more events from "back in the day." This was the one that I did the most "production" work on with titles and all that. It was also about the only time for me at a dragstrip on the West Coast.
