I had one too, in Mayan Red with a 400. I bought it new and paid $6,300 for it. The thing only made 190 hp. My 2017 Mustang V-6 with 300 ponies, which I currently own, would drive circles around it.

The 71 455 HO was a substantially faster car than your '78. It was some 300 pounds lighter and 80 HP stronger, assuming yours was the higher output "T/A 6.6" as opposed to the doggier Oldsmobile 403.

Back in the day, Pontiac specifically stated that their new 1971 455 HO "performs better than anything in Pontiac history. Both low and top ends." That's fact. Many dismissed this engine because it, like all new GM performance engines for 1971 was a low compression engine. Everyone knew that the performance era would come to a screeching halt for the 1972 model year (tightening federal emissions and safety requirements plus skyrocketing insurance premiums). In a seeming act of defiance, Pontiac specifically engineered this engine for this single year. (The 1972 version was less potent). This engine was rated at 310 SAE NET HP in the GTO, and 305 Net HP in the Firebirds, due to the later's more restrictive exhaust system. While those figures may seem quaint by today's standard, they were highly impressive by 1971 and prior model years. (Unlike earlier Gross power and torque ratings, net figures represent what the engine produces in its as installed stated, with full factory intake and exhaust system and all engine accessories in place and operating. So equipped, a '71 455 HO Trans Am was capable of very high 13 second quarter miles straight off the showroom floor.

Oh man!
I'm assuming it is no longer for sale?
It's a great car MAAAAAN but these honeycomb wheels although correct don't do it justice. It needs some deep dish wheels but still small diameter.

I know you don't hear me 🎅 I've been asking for this car all my life how about in 20/20 PLEASE😁
