1971 Cadillac Fleetwood 75 Limousine [EP 17] @KlepsGarage

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Back in 1974 my family vacationed in Ft Lauderdale FL. While there, all I saw were Cadillacs everywhere. What beautiful boats and land barges. To a 13 year old boy this was over whelming to see so many in one place. What was even better, a local car show had a Mercedes and Rolls Limousines sitting beside each other. I was hooked and thought to myself I need a Limo before I am 21. Fast forward to 1982 after finding a 1971 Lincoln Limo in my home town I though this dream was possible. However the Lincoln was $5,000. and to me that might as well been a million. I kept looking and a friend of mine who worked in an auto parts store, told me that he saw a Cadillac Limo in Indiana. I needed to go to Indy to get some parts for my first vehicle a 1948 Jeep PU (which I still have) so a friend of mine and I set out for the hunt. We found the car sitting outside in a driveway beside a home. No one was home so I looked it over and thought it was a little wore out. We went on to Indy got my parts and on the way back my friend saw a couple of girls walking and said hey look at them. Needless to say I missed my turn to take the short way home and ended up going back past the Limo. The owner was home and I stopped into look at it. $1,400 later I was the proud owner. I restored the car and used it for a Limousine service from 1983 to 1988. I really enjoyed the weddings as everyone was in a good mood and dressed to impress. I've keep the car all these years as it has good history and very good memories. I am the third owner. The car was from New York and supposedly belong to the Kissinger Family. The same family as Dr. Henry Kissinger who in 1969 was the National Security Advisor and U.S Secretary of State for then President Nixon. I have never been able to confirm this in writing, but believe it to be possible. As I have owned it all but 11 years of its life, I guess it doesn't matter as I am the one with the history behind the car. Recently I found out this is car #88 out of #752 made for 1971. Thanks TG.
The reason I put a 500CID or 8.2 Liter Engine in this car would be to showcase the largest cubic inch displacement engine put in an American passenger car. Plus I had one laying around that I rebuild using some tricks to get the horse power back to the 1970 engines.

The mini bar is an excellent idea! The jump seats are great for extra passengers but whoever has the misfortune of sitting in them gets an uncomfortable ride and the people behind the jump seats lose all their leg room. The jump seats remind me of the checker taxis.

Jumps were mainly used for funeral homes. This car has Always been a private owner I think the formal limo had jumps to, but like you said, waste of time. Thanks for watching.

Well-detailed video. Enjoyed the driving videos. I own a 1976 Fleetwood Seventy-Five Limousine. #246 of 834 limousines built for the 1976 model year. Very impressive cars.

@@KlepsGarage Probably the 11,118th Cadillac built for the 1971 model year. Check the plate under the hood. Should be able to find the build date. My '76 limo show 10A. Which translates to the first week of Oct., 1975.

I have driven a 1971 Formal limousine a lot in the 1990's and personally had a 1978 long sedan limousine later for a number of years. Completely stock with grey interior. Enjoyed it very much. Want to have one again. Preferably a 1973, like the Coupe dé Ville I drove for many years. But it must be all stock. There is a 1972 formal for sale in the area, and has been for a decade. Nobody seem to take the bite. Probably because the vinyl roof has been removed, painted white and added the silly boomerang. I would want it repainted black. There is no replacement for these limousines. You just have to deal with finding and training an appropriate driver and treat him well. We always booked hotel rooms for the driver to relax, whilst going to dinners or parties.

good to see that you are keeping it in service and are an enthusiast. Curious about the engine change. Know the 500 ci is larger than the 472 ci, but in '71 there were not as stringent emissions controls, which I assume would have made for more efficient and powerful

Wanted the 500 because it is the largest cubic inch engine put in a passenger car to date. See my reply to last comment on horsepower. I did some changes to the 76 engine to turn it into the 1970 engine horse and torque. Thx

1970 was the last year for full horse power, The 500CID was 400hp @ 550Torque stock. The 472 in 1970 was 375/535. Then 1971-1973 Gm went to dished out pistons dropping compression. 1974 to 1976 went back to flat top pistons with large chamber heads. My 500CID now sports flat top pistons with 1971 heads (small chamber) after rebuild. So horse power is adequate. Also knowing what I know now, should have used 425CID heads, with flat top pistons. Thx See more Horsepower info at Cadillaclasalleclub.org

Exactly. My dad was a hotel manager earning 10K/year in 1972. His first house was $26,000 and the “rule of thumb” back then was the house couldn’t be more than 2 1/2 times your salary to qualify. When did that rule go out the window? Houses today are over 5X the average salary!
