Those motorcycles are like a drug. Once your hook you can't quit :-)

My mate had one of these, and I had the R90 S. He lost the keys, so he wired it for keyless, and it got stolen. Years later he got a call - the cops found it when someone tried to re-register it. There indestructible.

Glad you like it. I feel this way too, and I have one of these with 198,608 miles on it. Currently getting a valve job. I did a Saddlesore 1000 on it 10 years ago, only half of which was on Interstates. 80 mph at 5000 rpm is very smooth, and it is the torque peak. I like it at 80 very much. Carb synchronization is key. I've had it 47 years. They also handle very well on tight curves all day. Your friend should have checked you out a bit better prior to the ride. Your headlight is switched off (turn the ignition to the right; left is parking lights); but the left handlebar switch is on high beam. Don't hit the key down (that breaks the contacts), but gently press. The turn signal switch is on the right; horn is on the left as he told you later. The stock mirrors mount on the bars normally. You can see the screw holes for them. The front brakes, if properly set up, are actually pretty good for the era, and were one of the better drum brakes at the time. They are better than many period disc brakes, and they will squeal the front tire no problem. But only if properly set up. It sounds like yours are not. Again, glad you liked it. Now go ride it on a 600 mile day, properly geared up, on smaller roads. And another. And another. Then you'll really understand!

I'm told that 80 mph is her sweet spot. A great motorbike, for sure. The problems with the brakes were within me and not this bike. Brakes actually worked well. I've just rode too many bikes with poor drum brakes. Beautiful machine. Wahoo!

I wanted a BMW back in '70 and had my heart set on a /2 due to their legendary cross country status. Then they changed to the /5's and I just didn't like the styling (they're okay now.) Bought a '71 Guzzi Ambassador and was never sorry. Riding a BMW K75RT for the past 30 years with a Tonti frame Guzzi in the works. Nice ride report and great looking R75.

Always wanted to ride the K75. Looks like the perfect motorbike to me. Have been around many great Guzzi's but have never rode one...yet. Will work on getting that done soon. Wahoo!

@@forgottenmotorcycles Be careful if you purchase a K75 because they never die and you'll have to keep it forever. 😊

Smooth Fuzzy. Never new much about those older BMW's. The older Nortons were 4 speed also. Thanks for the review. Many individuals seem to trust your ability to ride and review. No wonder you have your own shirt. Ride Safe.

Sweet bike! I had 2 - a '72 (/5) & a '76 (/6). For the 73.5 model, they increased the wheelbase a bit to give it better higher speed stability, esp. if it had a fairing. This one looks like it has the larger tank, 5.8 gal. The 4.8 gal. was standard. Is that a K-70 on the front? - OK on the rear, but bad front tire for any roadbike, I think. They often came w/ Continentals, RB-2 on the front. For some reason, the later R80/7 was the smoothest of all the Beemer twins.

The /5 BMW’s could be started and ridden with an 8-penny nail provided you’re home before sunset.
