On "My Car Story" we're in Chicago on 11-27-20.
We're looking at a 1970 Oldsmobile Cutlass 442 W-30 Convertible in Black Paint with a 455 CI Engine. The car also has the manual 4 speed transmission.
The car's Owner is Tom Lembeck. Tom’s had this car since 1999. Tom’s well known for his MOPAR muscle car collection, however when Tom saw this car he thought it was the coolest car he’d ever seen.
ENJOY!

I love when cars like this are kept relatively stock. Oldsmobile always made super great engines with a high amount of nickel in the engine blocks . convertibles are heavier than hardtop due to the the overcompensation for not having a fixed roof but with 500 ft lb of torque it's not really a concern. Thanks to u both lou

LOL older brother had a gold/white 1970 W30. Nothing could touch it 0-60. What I remember was how HOT these cars got. Driving to a summer wedding out of town with mother and sister in law, we had to pull over, pop the hood and fan that monster 455 with magazines/floormats to get it cool enough to finish the drive to the wedding before we missed it. Better story, elder brother passes the car down to middle brother. One day he catches my Ma walking out the door and volunteers to take her on an errand to the drugstore for blue rinse or curlers or something. He waits in the car parked near the store, when he sees my mother he jumps on the gas and does a brake stand a LOUD SMOKEY brake stand. He then pulls a donut and slides up next to the curb where my mother is stoically waiting...She gets in the car and says "I wish you wouldn't do that". BTW, saw a mint all original version of the same car sell on Barrett Jackson for about $450k. Cheers Lou.

Great car, brings back memories. The Mom of one of the kids I grew up with had a 1970 442 W30. Hers wasn't a convertible but what a ride! She had a bit of a heavy right foot, I can still remember her getting on it just enough to break the tires loose, after she had it moving, as she left Church every Sunday! I delivered parts and saw it at one of the garages when I was delivering parts. I asked what it was there for and he said rear tires. It seems that she needed new rear tires about every three months. She complained that the tires weren't very good because they wore out so fast!

So cool that you posed the car in a Chicago vacant lot, which has been forever known by us Chicagoans as a "prairie" no matter how surrounded it is by other houses or buildings. Absolutely one of the best 442's I've seen. I agree that the '70 was a particularly choice year. The triple back combo is the icing on the cake. My top pick for '70 will always be the Chevelle SS, but this one comes in close!

Car is awesome !! ha, 1980 and i take my long gone '69 Charger (383 magnum, 727, sure grip) out for a spin. I wind up next to a nice 442 similar to this at a stop light, point forward and the guy gives me a nod. Light turns green and we're off. We're about even mid way thru second gear for me and he looks at his friend, nails it, barks the tires and leaves me in the dust. When he punched it, i took a closer look and see The W-30 insignia. I didn't know what it was. Get home, take a closer look at a recently received Hot Rod magazine which featured Classic Muscle Cars and, yep, a W-30 was there. 'A 455 ?!?'. No wonder he blew me away. Thanks for the memory, Lou , i think ;).

Beautiful !! After years of being “old-man” cars, in the late 60’s, Olds and Buick stepped up and showed their moxie !! I had a ‘70 Cutlass convertible with the 350 4-bbl., and even that car was fun. These 4-4-2’s were a blast with all that torque.

My other favorite GM Oldsmobile 442 car. This is such an AMAZING and GORGEOUS vehicle. A High performance of the 70s WOW!! FLAWLESS, very CLEAN indeed! Black represents Masculinity, like my former cars Alfetta GTV and Celica GTS, completely dark. But this car is a BOMB! the engine is a KNOCKOUT! very PRISTINE! I love the way they incorporate the blue/silver colors of the engine block, the shining alternator and the presence of black carburetor, hoses and wirings, GREAT! the interior is absolutely AMAZING! Idling and rev sound like a lion Growling! Roarr!

A rare W-30 indeed. Total production W-30 convertibles in 1970 were 264 of which 96 were 4spd. cars. Actually the "Holy Grail" of 442's were produced in 1966. 54 W-30's and 93 dealer modified "Track Pac" 442's, IMHO. I own a 1970 442. Love the car and the gobs of torque.

Again, one of my favorites cars from that time, any 1970-72 Cutlass 442 would be my dream car I've not owned to date, as long as they were original, numbers matching with a story. A convertible 442 W-30 is just a cherry on top!

I am what you would classify as a Mopar guy. I never have been able to explain it, but I have a strong love for Oldsmobiles. Maybe it's the fact that Olds Rallye wheels are the best looking factory wheel ever made. It could be that monster torque 455. It could be that gorgeous split grill or how the taillights are integrated into the bumper. The 1970 442 is my all time favorite non-Mopar and a top 5 favorite car, Mopars included. The owner is right. I can't think of a convertible I like better.

Goodday Lou, What a killer video. I think I am the biggest Oldsmobile fan in Australia. No one knows about them here in Australia, mention Oldsmobile & they think old people's car & nothing to do with muscle cars. My first 1:18 Diecast Model is a 1970 Oldsmobile 442 W30 in Matador Red. Tom has impeccable taste in Muscle Cars & a Triple Black, 4 speed W 30 is up there with the best of them. I would sell my Mopar for a W 30. Oldsmobile under appreciated, under valued, & the first GM brand to put a big block in the new for 1968 A Bodies . Hurst Oldsmobile 445. Original gentleman's muscle car, not Buick but Oldsmobile. I just wished GM gave Oldsmobile a pony car like they did with Pontiac. Great great video, more Oldsmobile please. Your number 1 Fan in Australia Louis Kats from Melbourne Australia ☺ 👍 ❤

Curious, I am wondering about a car my neighbor has/had. Quite a number of years ago my fuel gauge quit, causing me to run out of gas and so I knocked on my country neighbors door to see if he had a can he could lend me and I could pay him back. We went into his garage and I was blown away by what was in there. I don't know the year exactly but it looked like this car in the video. What I do remember is that it was a Hurst optioned W30 olds convertible with the dual scoops, blue paint with silver or gold pin stripping / trim, can't quite recall. It had white interior. I said to him that I had no idea that he even had it because I had never seen him drive it. He said that he barely ever took it out and that it had never been wet. It seemed to me that it only had around 400 miles on it. I moved away from there almost 40 years ago but have often wondered about it and if he still has it or not. He said he would sell his wife before he sold it lol. I wonder how rare of a car that actually was? I was more of a Ford man and at the time my own car was a 68 big block fastback Mustang.
