When I was 15 learning to drive my student driver car was a new 1972 Plymouth Fury with a 440. It would effortlessly accelerate to 70 with five people in the car.

Good memories here ! Beautiful car....forty years ago, I had a `70 Fury III, an ex-State Police cruiser.....440 engine, heavy-duty EVERYTHING, certified 140 mph speedometer. It was as big as an aircraft carrier, but handled pretty good for such a big boat. And gas was about 55 cents a gallon.... I miss those days !

Hey Nick, I was an inspector on the BNRR, (in N. Dak.), in late 70's when those Trans-Am's were being shipped. One day, a 60' , 3 tier open automotive carrier came thru the train yard, and every single car on that carrier was a black 1978 Trans-Am. I was so overwhelmed that 2 years later , I bought a mint used one ! We made some unbelievable memories in that car.......

Thanks for sharing the 'C' Body Nick. There is a lot of mopar lovers who still take pride in the 'C' body platform. In 1974, my Mother and Step Dad bought an ex 1970 Montana Highway Patrol car at an auction. It was a white unmarked four-door with dark green interior. The car may have been a supervisor or Captain's car. The car had a 440, torqueflite, and an 8-3/4 posi with 3.23 gears, dual exhaust with bent tips and the Certified 140 speedo and full gauge package. Where the clock is on this green Fury, there was an oil pressure gauge. The car was no frills. It even had a special fitting on the fuel line near the fuel pump for filling gas cans for stranded motorists. The car also had Power brakes and steering with front disc brakes but no A/C. The engine was Hemi Orange with magnum manifolds special for the 'C' body. She got the car for $1600.00 with 65,000 miles on it. My older brother used to take it out on the freeway and the car accelerated to 140 with ease and rode nicely too. We got pulled over once by a WSP officer (Washington State Patrol) and he just wanted to see the car because he missed the one he had four years earlier. He said the 69' was the fastest but the 70' was almost as fast. He was disappointed with the performance of the new 74' he was driving. He let us off with a warning and Mother sold the car two years later to collector with 90,000 on the odometer. It's hard to say what ever happened to it. It had small 440 emblems on the hood too. Really a unique car.

Hi Nick, I hope you are enjoying the beautiful Summer weather! The Fury had the rubber floor over jute padding throughout. The holes where the shotgun mount was were still in the floor by the trans tunnel. The car had a special governor in the 727 that allowed the car to shift out of passing gear at 98 mph into drive. We were really bummed when Mother sold the car. She is 4-11 and looked funny driving it and was afraid to floor it because it scared her. True story.

My sixth grade teacher had a Sport Fury convertible, I’m guessing 1967 or 68. White with black interior and I think a white top. A few of us used to hang around after school to help out and and she gave us a ride home. She hammered that V-8 and gave us a thrill racing through the neighborhood. It’s no wonder she was our favorite teacher and many of us kept in touch long after we graduated. The fact that she was quite the looker and puberty was onsetting probably didn’t hurt either. LOL

Seeing all these 318s brings back memories Nick. The first car I ever bought was Chrysler Córdoba, 318 with a A906 tranny (I believe). Hope I got that right it was off the top of my head. I got a loan from my credit union and I had just turned 15. Mind you I had been driving illegally for both of my divorced parents for years. I learned how to drive when I was ten years old in a Triumph TR7. I would pick up my mom sometimes and run errands too. My dad always had me drive his work trucks around I learned how to drive a stick shift on a frozen river. Much easier as it’s harder to stall, you just spin the tires instead. But I loved my 318 and I drove it very hard. I had put two more transmissions in it before I moved on. Love that Fury III, there’s so much to do in the front bench seat when you’re a teenager, I feel bad for the newer generations that have never had a young love to sit next to driving through life in a bench seat. Does that have heavy torsion bars like my Córdoba did? Those big Mopar cars glide like a fine ship, love the ride.

What a culture in your shop you’ve developed, seems very naturally cultivated. I am visiting Maine this coming month from GA where I live now, the nicest part of the year up that way, so hard to keep old cars on the roads with the salt and sand, those winters are hard on them. Keep on keepin on Nick. It’s almost a spiritual thing there enjoying this time of year and driving.

jimmy wilkinson Someone must have installed the timing chain incorrectly and put the camshaft out of position causing the valves to hit the pistons and bending pushrods. It's obvious. Did you figure it out that this is what happened? The new timing chain gave it away to me right away.

My 1974 International 392 I/C needs the head shaved, valves seated, new valve springs, new rings, new bearings, new lifters, pretty much new everything, so soon as I can I will be rebuilding it and putting in a Chrysler high energy electronic ignition system with 50kv to the plugs. Not making a hot rod out of it, just a nice strong, fuel efficient work truck.

Might be a lot easier and cheaper just to grab a late '70's 345 distributer out of a Scout II. They're self-contained HEI units (no separate box) and super reliable. Will a Chrysler distributor really fit an IH? I always like to find a new parts source :)

  • @DeliciousDeBlair

392 I/C uses the very same Holly brand distributor as any 440/383 and I have a complete reman my brother bought for me some time back and all i need is the 40$ worth of reluctor, pickup and coil firing module. If I did not need to drive my 1972 Dodge motor home with a 413 I/C, I could pull the ignition out of it and drop it right in.

This truck has a 727 Torqueflite in it, a Holly distributor, a Delco alternator [although it can take a MOPAR alternator] and the water pump will exchange with many MOPAR engines.

Thanks for the info - junkyard Scouts are getting pretty rare, and trucks are gone completely (eastern PA). I'm about to toss the 727. My last good junkyard find was a heavy duty 1310 5 speed OD/divorced NP205 combo.

That FuryIII was georgous, it still looked new. A 318? Ok, for a cruiser that's just enough. (It could have been a slant 6...just kidding) The interceptor Torino is bigger than the Falcon, I like it better than the real one. Ah ha!!!!! I knew it! you had Pontiac blood in you some place! The blue Trans Am took me all the way back to 78. When I got my first job and met Pete. I just get a kick out of watching you and your guys work at a real shop. Thank you Nick, I thought real cars disappeared. But a Fury, Torino and a TransAm? It seems the real ones have flown North and roosted around your shop. The way of the muscle car will never die. Tommy.

Tom Miano. Tom, I seem to get more and more different muscle cars every day. What you see on video is what my Video Man George sees only on Saturdays. Nick's Garage is the way of the muscle car will never die !!!!!!

Whoah!!! Let’s see that welders helmet again!! (:36) Love that Plymouth... my father bought himself, way back, a 1969-70 Plymouth Sport Suburban station wagon with a really strong 383 Magnum under the hood. It was the talk of the block, fake wood grain on the sides and all! Have to say, sorry I missed you guys at the A+W last week, would have liked to see that Mad Max and I’m sure the folks out here would have loved it. By the way, where’s the poutine to go with those PoGo’s?

Nick Panaritis And the way it looks with that ugly Mercier Bridge work going on for at least 2 months, it’s going to be, I’m sure, not too big a crowd for the rest of the summer. A real pain in the butt. But I’m hoping myself to get up to your shop with the little woman and check out the classics. 👍

Michael W. It is not only the Mercier bridge, it is all over Montreal, Laval, and the South shore. In some cases, it is impossible to get anywhere.

Any chance on putting the Jeep in the lineup? It's been in the background for three vids....clearly getting engine work done. Is it going to be a Trackhawk killer or what?

MoparProud. It is a Jeep SRT 6.1 stroked out to a 7.0 liter. Waiting for headers and it will be running after that and hopefully I put it on video. I see some viewers look in the background to see what is next.
