The Ford Galaxie is a full-sized car that was built in the United States by Ford for model years 1959 through to 1974. The name was used for the top models in Ford's full-size range from 1958 until 1961, in a marketing attempt to appeal to the excitement surrounding the Space Race. For 1962, all full-size Fords wore the Galaxie badge, with "500" and "500/XL" denoting the higher series. The Galaxie 500/LTD was introduced for 1965 followed by the Galaxie 500 7-Litre for 1966. The Galaxie 500 prefix was dropped from the LTD in 1966, and from the XL in 1967;[2] however the basic series structuring levels were maintained. The "regular" Galaxie 500 continued below the LTD as Ford's mid-level full-size model from 1965 until its demise at the end of the 1974 model year.[3]:401-42
The Galaxie was the competitor to the high-volume full sized Chevrolet Impala.[4]
The similarly named Ford Galaxy is a large car/minivan available in the European market. The vehicle's name is believed to be derived from the original Ford Galaxie.
The 1969 model was built on a new platform with a 121-inch (3,100 mm) wheelbase. It was the end for the 427 and 428 engines, save for only the police package versions which continued to use the 360 hp 428 P Code 'Police Interceptor' as their top motor for 1969-70.[4] Replacing the FE series-based 427 and 428 engines was the new 429 cu in (7.0 L) "ThunderJet" that was introduced in the 1968 Ford Thunderbird; it was part of the new Ford 385 engine series. Power, at 360 hp (270 kW) for the dual-exhaust 4-barrel version, was higher than the 428's 345 hp (257 kW) and lower than the racing-bred 427's final rating of 390 hp (290 kW); there was also a single-exhaust 2-barrel version with 320 hp (240 kW) available.
Galaxies for model year 1970 received minor trim changes. A new ignition lock was located on the right side of the steering column. Model year 1970 was the last year for the XL,[4] but Galaxie 500 hardtop coupes were also available in both formal-roof and SportsRoof body styles. The optional 4-speed manual transmission, which was available on the 429 the year prior, was dropped for 1970.
Diamonds Are Forever is a 1971 spy film and the seventh in the James Bond series produced by Eon Productions. It is the sixth and final Eon film to star Sean Connery, who returned to the role as the fictional MI6 agent James Bond, having declined to reprise the role in On Her Majesty's Secret Service (1969).
The film is based on Ian Fleming's 1956 novel of the same name, and is the second of four James Bond films directed by Guy Hamilton. The story has Bond impersonating a diamond smuggler to infiltrate a smuggling ring, and soon uncovering a plot by his old enemy Ernst Stavro Blofeld to use the diamonds to build a space-based laser weapon. Bond has to battle his enemy for one last time, to stop the smuggling and stall Blofeld's plan of destroying Washington, D.C., and extorting the world with nuclear supremacy.
The producers were inspired by Goldfinger; as with that film, Guy Hamilton was hired to direct, and Shirley Bassey performed vocals on the title theme song. Locations included Las Vegas, California, Amsterdam and Lufthansa's hangar in West Germany.

That's a beautiful model. I love the interior and the red and blue sirens. It reminds me of when I was in La Habra, California, when my classmate's dad drove his police car towards the playground in 1979. His police car had red and blue sirens. People should know about La Habra, California because that's the same town in which Richard Nixon used to practice law.

You're a wellspring of helpful modeling advice. Love the tire scuffing technique with the drill and socket. Totally using that on my next build! I'm finally finishing up my first two cars, '70 Trans Am and '66 GTO, after many paint and clear lessons I had to learn the hard way. Lots of resanding, repainting, and a trip to the purple pond.

Hi Chris since this kit is based on the original 1970 LTD 4 door hardtop promo, you can build this kit as a factory stock 1970 Galaxie 500 4 door hardtop by excising the B post and vent windows. For wheels I suggest the,"turbine" stock wheels and whitewall tires from any AMT 1970 Chevy Impala kit (Ford offered a similar looking wheel option). If I'm not mistaken most 1970 Ford police cruisers would have been barebones Custom sedans :-)

Thanks for bringing this up...the roof line is dummied up a bit with the vent windows and b pillar with door frames to represent a 4 door sedan. It's not totally accurate for a 4 door sedan, but close. And yes I doubt many agencies used a Galaxie 500. Most would have used a Custom. and some did specify Custom 500's as they were slightly easier to sell in 2 years.

~I am not the best model car builder but they still come out pretty good~but I can remember a time when my mom use to take me uptown to Woolworth's and I use to go to the model car section as they were displayed in a tray type cabinet and bringing one of them home, either it be AMT, MPC, Lindberg, Monogram or Johann~and the thing that stands out the most about back then to now is how sturdy the plastic and model was formed~the point I am getting at is when you pieced it all together it was screwed with bumper from chassis to body and even the windows were slipped through ringed tabs and the interior tub was attached there too without glue~even had metal axles that fit the wheels and the wheels were sturdy for you to put the wheel coverings on them with the wheel backs~models are really not the same as they use to be but this model brings back the old days of building them~thanks~

Excellent as always, I'm so glad that Round 2 are re-releasing these kits, this was a super rare kit just a few years ago !. Nerd alert Aktshually fact......that engine in the kit was apparently the first engine AMT could get their hands on from their inventory. When this kit was originally released in 1972 it was originally based off the 1970 LTD kit which was a promo, hence the engine blanking plate A Boss 429 would never be in a Galaxie from standard but the folks at AMT wanted a big muscle engine for the new for 72 Police Interceptor kit !

Back in the 70's - 80's I had a sonic controlled police car that looked like this one. It would go forward in a straight line and it had a central hidden wheel between the front wheel so when you made it reverse it would reverse in a circle. The hidden central wheel would pivot 90 degrees which made the car reverse in a circle. It was a bit bigger that 1/24 scale.

I didn't think this old (new-old 😜) kit would build up very nice, but it sure turned out looking sweet, Chris! I really like it, I may order one up next order and build mine more of a detective's "plain wrapper" type of police car. I don't build as often as I used to (or nearly as often as I order/buy a kit thinking that I will, haha!), but I've started a new project this week using AMT's Coca Cola '53 F100 reissue that you built a while back, using some techniques I'd known about for years but had never tried (weathering techniques), so I had to go back and watch your build of it a couple times for inspiration, LOL! I'll share it on your FB once (IF) it's (ever) finished. Happy weekend when it gets here, great video, my friend 😁✌

Funny that this kit has a manual transmission and a big Boss 429 Ford V-8 for this application. Adding a red '71 Mustang Mach 1 would make for a heck of a set! Beautifully detailed as usual 👍

Your trademark Testers silver again. But wait! Isn't that a manual 4-speed you're painting? That must make for some cool coffee-break drag races! (And with no floor-shift.)

During 1969-70 AMT and other kit manufacturers put Boss 429 engines in a number of cars that never had them available. This is one of those kits. I wish they had included the option of 429 Thunder Jet heads and valve covers. I guess when I get ready to build one of these kits, I will have to make resin copies of the right parts from some other kit. Maybe the Revell 70 Cobra kit.

"Messing up" is part of the learning curve! A good way to minimize same is to do a "deep dive" into Chris' channel, as "Pigeyes" offers a vertible encyclopedia of "How-to" tips and techniques! Besides, watching Chris in action is a "boot camp" in in itself!

I noticed you are using Tamiya Decal solution. How does it compare to Micorset/Microsol? If the decal is a bit thick and do not conform after first application would second application of Tamiya Solution lift the decal (on some decals...cough..Academy..cough.. i have to make three or four applications of the MicroSol)? Also wondering if you have any feedback on the Tamiya Strong Decal solution.

26:01 wow, great channel, I've been missing out for years! I'm having trouble understanding the radio setup. Is there supposed to be this perpendicular line down the middle of the radio holder to separate something? Also, it looks like they want the lower chrome part facing upward. Can you show a detailed side view of radio?
