1970 Dodge Challenger R/T convertible seen in The Immortal episode S1:E1 (Sylvia)

Scenes from the first (and ONLY) season of The Immortal
The car seen on screen is my old 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T convertible. Since its appearance as Pete Cochran's daily driver throughout the 2nd season of The Mod Squad, it is now sporting some tape-on stripes on the hood, and a chrome gas cap. The DMV issued license plate 113 AEG was replaced by a fake Hollywood plate. That incorrect chrome gas cap seen in this episode was on the car when I purchased it in 1977, and remains on the car to this day.
This episode is S1:E1 "Sylvia", and is the only episode in which the car appears. This is because the car was NOT the daily driver of a recurring character (as in The Mod Squad), but rather, as the car of a guest star.
To see the car as it appeared in The Mod Squad, see my other video "1970 Dodge Challenger R/T convertible seen in Mod Squad episode S2:E24 (Call Back Yesterday)"
The car itself is unique, being a column-shift automatic (for the actors to slide across unimpeded), almost unheard-of in R/T trim Challengers. (The Greenlight Collectibles "Mod Squad" model car gets this detail wrong, sporting the vastly more common console shifter). Other unique options include AC combined with clear glass (for no camera distortion), M63 SE bling (yes, there was no such thing as an R/T-SE convertible), and deluxe seat belts (that is a "Fasten Seat Belts" light on the dash, and NOT the reverse light seen in four-speeds).
The car has since gone to my good friend Carl in Fresno, where the incorrect black interior has now been put back to the correct red, along with numerous other improvements putting it back to numbers-matching original condition.

From a distance, you'd think that was Joe Mannix, except his was a green Barracuda convertible, even though he later drove a hardtop Challenger.

Peter Graves drove a Challenger convertible in Mission: Impossible, and his had a column shifter, I believe. I never really liked column shifters in pony cars. I think the Mustang was the only car in that category to not have them.

Hi, Randy with MCG here - I'm having a blast researching this car. Look up "Crowhaven Farm" here on KZread, it was a 1970 horror movie - the car turns up in that movie for one scene at the 17:00 minute mark - definitely the same car. Would seem it was in The Immortal before it went to Mod Squad. Pilot episode this car is in with Christopher George aired September 30, 1969. The first episode it appeared in with Mod Squad was March 24, 1970. It's also used as a background car in a TV movie called "How Awful About Allen" which had Psycho boy in it and that aired on September 22, 1970. Poring over the footage available, I think it's definitely the dressed up a bit convert used in Adam 12 in 1971, it's a background car in one episode of Ironside in 1971, and it's a primary use car in the epic made-for-television movie "Drive Hard Drive Fast" which came out in early 1973 - that seems to have been its last "major" role, and it's got the bumper guards and Road Wheels on it then, same red interior, same column shifter. This car saw a LOT of Hollywood use! Take care man!

Randy - It was nice chatting with you on the phone the other day. I purposely summarized with you my years of stewardship of the car, knowing what an important and busy guy you are. I have MANY more stories about my four decades with this car, in its different stages of life. Feel free to call again or email, if you want any more detail. And THANK YOU for the additional leads on other screen sightings of this car. Living in ignorance of the car's history from 1977 until 2009 (when the 2nd season Mod Squad DVDs were issued), it is a miracle that an ancient and abused 1970 model year car is still around. I look forward to whatever article Mopar Collectors Guide eventually publishes.
