1970 454 Chevelle SS Convertible Tremec TKX 5 Speed Upgrade Nightmares overcome! It's complete!

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

You've heard us say this before again and again, any job worth doing is worth doing twice. Well in the case it's not just worth doing twice it's worth doing 5 or 6 times just to make sure everything is completely correct and won't cause issues down the line. We certainly aren't the best in the business, and even we have complications and mistakes, and we'll freely admit and show them to all of you. Several people made comments in reference to the extremely specific tolerances the Tremec TKX calls for so first off, let's check to see exactly where we are.
After a lot of work and frustration, it's done. Finally. Welcome to Hot Rodding huh? What initially was just a "couple days" worth of work, and with all the parts preordered and ready to go even WE run into complications and issues. That's just how it goes. Adapt and overcome. Stick with it don't give up and in the end you'll pull out the win. This 1970 Chevelle SS was a great car before we got our hands on it, and it's an even greater car now for SURE.
Now if we could just get some nice warm sunny weather again to enjoy this thing in!

    Sometimes they just don't want to go back together, but stay after it, don't quit, and you'll win in the end! (especially if you have access to just about any kind of tool or machining equipment possible)! For the merch link for those interested LucoreAuto.Myshopify.com

    Rich, I wish you were in Texas. I love how dedicated you are to doing things correctly. Subscribing. I'm thinking about converting my LS swapped 71 El Camino to a 5 or 6 speed standard from a 4L60e. You just helped me make my mind up. No major tunnel mods required with the TKX. If you want a second overdrive you have to butcher up the tunnel. No thanks on that. Just go with the 5 speed.

    Thanks for posting this. Saved many people from falling into that same bellhousing problem. I'm thinking of doing a TKX in my 396 Nova. Like the stock mechanical clutch. Everyone online does the hydraulic. Pricey and complex. You looked to be driving with complete ease. Is the mechanical clutches are not fun to drive overblown? I want to stick with the z bar and fork.

    Rich depending on how one looks at it or ones choice of a vehicle. It could be a Ford Pinto, Ford pickup the Triton the one that likes to spit the plugs out.Then there's the Chevrolet Monza the Chevy cavalier. Dodge gave us the aspirin and little D 150. V W gave the Thing , and the Gulf. And last but not least somebody decided to throw a monkey wrench in the mix the Yugo🤣 then the big-3 gave us an error of new muscle Ford Mustang with a 4-cylinder Chevy Camaro with a four-cylinder and the Dodge charger with a 4-cylinder. So looking at those.I would have to say God loves you.

    The stamped Blow-proof bell would most likely clear with no issues. But I will still roll engines over to check clearance on any future job like this. Learn from the mistakes and win the battle.

  • @dickaslet6769
    @dickaslet6769 Жыл бұрын

    Wonder if the clearance issue was due to the flywheel thickness?

  • @richardlucore6813

    @richardlucore6813

    Жыл бұрын

    The aluminum Lakewood bell is much thicker than the factory unit and it measured within spec for centerline runout. The factory bell cleared the clutch and flywheel with ease. While it is frustrating to have to solve the problem... the Lakewood bellhousing is far superior to the factory unit. A stamped blowproof bellhouse would most likely clear without any issues.
