1970 2 Stroke 350cc motorcycle restoration full timelapse

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

FULL Timelapse Restoring trashed 1973 Yamaha Rd350. There is a reason they stopped making them. The power and lightweight handling made them dangerous and an absolute riot to ride! This project was something I wanted to tackle after hearing only great things about the bikes. A time machine to the past...

For some even faster 2 stroke action get you hands on an old Kawasaki Triple H2 The Widow maker My buddy has a drag one and it does 8sec in the 1/4. FBG motor. I agree you did a Helluva nice job on the old bike young man. Keep digging you're going places.

CORRECTION!!!! In 1970, it was still called the R5 350, NOT the RD 350! The RD came out in 1973, and was built until 1976, when the RD 400 came out......

I had an RD350 in the early 70's. It was both exhilarating and terrifying, and it nearly killed me on more than one occasion. It's hard to impress on someone how much performance it had. You can really enjoy that bike, but treat it with respect. Love your builds and keep up the good work!!!

Back then I was seventeen and the prospect of all that speed on tap was very very attractive, but I hated the smell of two-stroke (still do) ...probably just as well, as I am alive to watch this video, and fit enough to ride a push-bike up steep hills.

I did a full restore on a 1975 RD-350B about a 15 years ago. It took me a couple of years to finish it. The one missing piece was the seat. I had a contact at the local Yamaha dealership who bored my cylinders and he was able to order a stock seat from the factory. There were only 2 left and I got one of them. When it arrived, the box was covered in dust and even after opening the box, I couldn't believe the amount of dust inside too. That's what happens after 30 years in the factory, I guess? When it was finished, the bike was amazing. I got pulled over by a group of Hell's Angels riding through a canyon on the way to the beach. I thought these guys were going to kick my ass. The lead guy go toff of his hog an walked over to me and said "Wow!, check this out. My first bike was one of these." Showing his other buddies. Then he congratulated me on the restore and they took off. Whew!

This is a Yamaha R5 piston-ported engine, not a RD350 as some might think. The RDs came later. But he changed the crankshaft, used RD (Banshee) pistons and cylinders with reed-valves and technically, changed it to an RD engine ! Great job ! While I am not a subscriber to the styling...........man that ride in the end brought goosebumps ! Thankfully, no deer ran across the road ! As a 67-year-old, I still long for the two-stroke era. We used to eat the Honda guys RAW !! Trinidad & Tobago. West Indies.

They were quick alright. I remember riding a friends RD350 for the first time in the very early 1970's and scarring the life out of myself. The bike I rode at that time was a Yamaha RT1B trail bike, and the RD350 was a whole new ball game. I found myself carrying far too much speed into corners and then really struggling to get around them. I quickly learned to treat that bike much differently to my RT1B in corners or i wasn't going to live much longer

Well of course i am old school so rather it before getting modified....i had an R5 for my second bike and it was a weapon in those days once timing was set up using a dial gauge. Never seen an angle grinder used so freely on a restoration and an engine being dumped on the ground as the frame was tilted...i guess this is the younger generation modern way. Great to see they are still interested in bikes. Probably made more from youtube with this bike clip then we did in our entire life from restoring bikes :)

Absolute gr8 restoration ,you cant beat the old RD s i used to production race them back in the 80 s brilliant bikes for the time, there was a lot of work on filming and editing take credit for that too, greetings from Wales UK.

Your fabricating skills are godlike! What an incredible build!! 20 HP and 20 mph over stock is impressive!! You're like a young John Britten. If you don't know who he is, check him out! Even somebody with your skill sets, will be truly impressed! Stay safe, Brother!

Hell yes! I wish they'd manufactured 900's and up. Can you imagine the thrill and terror of their acceleration?

they did yzr500 for race. They were way to fast and to hard to handle. 2T after some point of power is not rideable.
