Welcome to Amity Tracks. This is a channel where we discuss a wide range of music related topics. The focus will be on music from the 1960’s through the 1990’s, but not exclusively. Classic rock, progressive rock, psychedelic rock, hard rock, jazz, blues, folk, country, soul…all genres are fair game. From time to time we may dabble in other popular culture, such as film, history or sports. But music is primarily what we do here. The focus is on the music and the artists. We hope to encourage an open and dynamic community with fun and informative discussions not only in the videos, but also in the comments section. Please note that, while disagreement and discussion is welcome, no personal attacks or out of bounds comments will be tolerated. We want to be a part of the positive larger vinyl community and other like-minded, music focused communities.

I graduated high school in 1969 and still have all the albums you featured except for Miles Davis, I wasn’t into jazz back then. But out of all of them, the two I play the most are Let it Bleed and Led Zep 1 who I actually saw live in concert on August 30, 1969. They performed most of the songs from that album.

Cool list! I would have included Fairport Convention _Unhalfbricking_ on my best of 1969, but that's a quibble on my part.

I was 17 and bought Fleetwood Mac, The Who, Led Zep 1 and 2, Sreve Miller, King Crimson, CCR, Abbey Road, The Band, Neil Young and the Stones.....all that year....I had started working as a Trainee Metallurgist and could afford a few albums....later on I bought the Miles Davis, the CSN and Bob Dylan.....a fabulous year for music ....went on to buy much later the Velvets, Iggy, Nick Drake, Creedence, Hot Rats, Isaac Hales, Fairports, and Beefheart....what an amazing year truly....

I have all those albums on vinyl except Skip Spence. The best: New York Tendaberry from the genius of Laura Nyro. The artistic pinnacle of modern songwriting while she deconstructs songwriting. Stripped back but symphonic, no guitars but heavier than metal. Miles Davis was dropping in to see during the recording. Kate Bush's Wuthering Heights was obviously influenced by Captain for Dark Mornings. The 2021 mega hit Drivers Licence by Olivia Rodrigo is based on You Don't Love Me When I Cry. Lyrically, Nyro tackles love, heartbreak, desperation, abortion (Gibsom St), the political assassination of MLK and RK in the vernacular of MLK (Save the Country), infidelity and revenge and more. Nyro saw right through the vacuous hippy sensibility and dealt with real life in the here and now. The greatest artist in the truest meaning of the word in contemporary popular music. A teenage genius to Goddess level.

It was the Age of Aquarius in 1969. You forgot about men going to the moon. I liked the Brady Bunch on TV. Being a young kid then i liked reading Archie comics, and chewing on gum in my sneakers. Songs I liked that year were Sly and the Famiy Stones Hot fun in the Summertime, the Doors and their hit Touch Me , Elvis Presleys Supicious Minds, and the Archie's Bubblegum hit Sugar Sugar. Led Zeppelin were an excellent band, Robert Plant was a charismatic lead front man for the group. The Beach Boys did a song i like from that year, titled I can hear Music. I saw Miles Davis in concert in the 1980s It was around the time of his Tutu album release. It was a funky gig. CCR put out good tracks. My mother liked them, she bought their 45 rpm single Bad moon Rising back then. Rolling Stones have been prolific in their output. Thanks for your posting. From Carl in New Zealand.

miles davis "in a silent way" is so deserving of any accolade. especially the only track on side 1 - "ssshhh / peaceful". that repetitive two note bass that permeates the entire songs while all those other instruments and sounds swirls around it is so unusual, but it works so good.

Couldn't agree more. Gram Parsons is a bit overrated. 1969 was a great year. My top ten are on my Top Ten 1969 video. Some people loved but others complained about my number one. Songs For A Tailor was Jack Bruce's first solo album. Things We Like came out in 1970 but was recorded in 1968. Good job. Enjoyed the video.

I'm not certain your honorable mentions are even intended to be exhaustive lists but based on your own comments I think the Allman Brothers debut is a notable omission in this video. I'm guessing you just spaced on it and time of recording.

I find it interesting you have In A Silent Way on here. Not on the merits; although I don't hold it in quite the esteem you do. But you run the risk of undermining genre distinctions I think you hold quite central to your mission. Your idea of rawk is pretty consistent and coherent, but then there are these cracks occasionally. That's what I tune in for.
