Lol I'll verify a ram air 4 doin low 12s in a gto. My buddy had one in the late 80s in a 67. Damn thing ripped!! Before he bought a car , his dad always test drove them with my dad. Usually little beaters , they came back laughing. They came back in the goat and were white as a sheet. 🤣 Later on while cleaning the car we found a bunch of low 12s timeslips in the trunk. We laughed at him a little because he paid 3500 and you could see some waves in the rear quarters.

A lot of people always claim these cars are no where near stock. The rules are pretty explicit on what can or can't be modified. Most of you have probably never heard of Jim Hand. He was a local racer at KCIR in Kansas City for many years. His most famous car was a '71 LeMans wagon with the T41 endura front end option (GTO front clip). I always put in big cams and intakes and Holley carbs on my GTO. In 1991 I was racing on grudge night at KCIR. So was Jim. We got lined up against each other. He proceeded to put me to shame in his stock sounding, 3900lbs LeMans Wagon!!! After the race I was back in the pits adjusting timing and so forth. He walked up, looked under my hood and turned to me and said, "If you ever want to make this thing fast come talk to me". I of course closed my hood and went to talk to him. He was running 12.30's at the time to my 12.90's. He had a little stack of photocopied papers stapled together from his hand typed journals of what did and did not make his car quicker. His combo that day was a .030 455 with '72 7K3 heads port matched, a stock cast iron intake with 1" carb spacer and 800 cfm Quadrajet, 041 blueprint cam (Ram Air IV), Rhodes lifters, HEI distributor and Hooker headers with 18" extensions. Cast rods and crank with forged pistons. L88 Corvette torque converter in a TH400 trans and 3.55 12 bolt posi rearend. His shift points were 5500. Changing to a 3.73 gear the E.T. was the same but his trap speed slowed by about 1 to 2 mph and changing to a 3.23 his E.T. slowed by about 1/10th but his trap speed increased about 1 to 2 mph. He bracket raced every weekend with the car and he knew exactly what slowed it and what made it faster. The point to all of this? Every "speed" part I had on my GTO at the time he had tested and it slowed him down. His combination of stock parts except the headers and pistons of course, was the quickest and fastest combination he could find outside of a full race engine of course. The factory generally spent many years and many millions of dollars (1960 dollars no less) testing parts and getting the best thing for their specific combination. Just as an FYI, back in '91 Jim told me to look at my cam specs, I was running a Comp Cams 292. He said it would be the exact same grind as the small block Chevy 292 cam. He was right. Now how different are a Pontiac and a small block Chevy? Very different. Jim had a stroke a few years back and doesn't race anymore. His wagon was down to 11.7's at the time. For any Pontiac fans he used to do tech articles for HPP and did some testing for a few months for Hot Rod magazine. They stopped having him test products after about the third time he said the "speed" parts actually slowed his car. I guess it's not good to debunk your advertiser's claims. He also wrote "Max Performance, How to Build High Performance Pontiacs". All I can say is he taught me that the factory knew what they were doing. So when you watch these cars they may be enhanced a little but they are using the factory design and if the factory had the ability to blueprint them back in the day those cars would have been much faster.

@@animekittyqueen4192 Jim raced a '66 Catalina wagon back in the '80's. That was when he first started to perfect his combination. He always liked wagons because of the great traction they got. But it was his Lemans wagon that really took things to the next level. He had a good friend named Gary Karnavale that had a '70 Lemans that was using the same components and running very impressive times and it was his daily driver. I own a '61 Catalina that I have built a 428 for. I'm just needing to finish it up and have a full size Poncho that will blow away many modern muscle cars. Good luck with whatever you build.

Two prime examples of the true muscle car era. The A12 Mopar was about as good as you could get for a factory boulevard bruiser, and the Yenko is about the top of line for a special Dealer-prepped and delivered performance car. It's comical to read the KZread comments from the bench racers, many of whom have never even ridden in either of these car models. The only thing bad about an A12 that I have to say from experience is: You have to be careful in a parking lot if you want to show off that beautiful 440-6V engine on a breezy day - that hood will be gone with the wind.

A better A12 match would be a 427/435 Corvette. Tri powers of nearly the same neighborhood of cubes, hp, weight and torque. Yes a BB Corvette weighs more than an A12.

What I see is the torqueflite is usually faster in a lot of cases where you are limited by cam rules due to the rpm/breathing limitations. You make more use of your big engines torque with it instead of letting it spin out of it's torque range. With 4speed you need the engine to rpm more because you are splitting it one more time and reaching max usable rpm. Lot of it depends on the modification s allowed. Now if it was a 383 instead of the 440 a 4 speed might be better. Same heads/ breathing with shorter stroke less torque.

Didn't want to erase & type all over again, lol. my apologies. A factory Yenko Nova running 10's??? NO WAY. Not even close man. Example: Back in 2005, a long time friend sold my younger brother a mid 90's Chevy short-bed, fleetside PU truck that was already built to the hilt for drag racing. It had a naturally aspirated 434 Dart iron SMALL BLOCK stuffed with all forged internals & built by one of Junior Johnson's former engine builders from the NASCAR circuit ( yes, many NASCAR engine builders enjoy drag racing too), with a set of aluminum AFR heads, ( I can't remember the cam ), an aluminum tunnel ram intake, headers of course, a long list of other hi-performance parts, a Dana rear end ( can't remember the gears ) with Strange axles, 3-speed Turbo 400 automatic trans on the column ( NO shift kit in the floor ), and huge Mickey Thompson slicks. Chromoly front end parts with special suspension/shocks for drag racing, and fuel cell in the truck bed. At the time, it was very likely the fastest normally aspirated street legal Chevy truck in east/central Florida & very popular among the drag racing crowd. The truck was an absolute beast. I mean this truck would scare the piss out of anyone not used to such power. The fastest it ever ran was mid 10's, and almost always ran high 10's or very low 11's on a hot day. So please, don't try to tell us that "a factory Yenko Nova can run 10's"...... IMPOSSIBLE.

So because there are a lot of clones, this one is automatically a clone? That’s flawed. FYI, the bodywork, paint, and stripes are all original on that car. It is a real Yenko Deuce.

@@CarsAndZebras Ok that is fine we can agree to disagree then but you have not changed my mind at toll there were no DYS super car the seats headrest like they was in a real Yenko & NO Yenko badges on it anywhere except the decals on the sides. I guess I was wrong to even state my opinion because they are both very nice cars from the past.

@@deuceswild9415 - no, you’re wrong because… You’re just plain wrong. The car has all of the correct badging, the only yenko badge is on the right rear, which you can see in the clip, and is correct. Also, the nova did not have the sYc headrests on the bench seat... this isn’t a Camaro. This car is a real Yenko Deuce, and is very well-documented.

I always thought all Yenko's came with a 427 but apparently 175 Nova Yenko Deuce's were produced in 1970 with the LT1 350, which tells me there are probably more clones than real ones running around. I had a 74 Z28 with the LT1 4spd and the best time it could do was a 14.1 stock. These guys are running LOW 12's so there is no way they are stock.

Obviously there were too many big words for you to understand, or perhaps you don’t understand drag racing. Firstly, the A12 was a low 13 second car from the factory. See the article from the 1969 superstock magazine for details. Ronnie Sox ran a high 12 after simply removing the air cleaner. Nova wasn’t too far off the following year. That was all on bias ply tires. If you don’t think that running sticky radial tires, an electronic ignition, and a mandrel bent exhaust while running 110 octane and the appropriate timing advancement can run in the 12s… Then you don’t really know what you’re talking about.

It's the internet not the real world. Chevys still dominate at the dragstrip due to their shear numbers, Ford is making a strong resurgence with the Mustangs. The old Mopar's are a small minority, thank goodness for the late model Challenges or whatever they are.
