Got stopped in Ohio in 1970 at a random inspection station. I was driving my all factory 68 Road Runner. The inspecting officer started to write me up for a defective horn. I told him that "meep meep" horn was what the car came with. Had to pop the hood to show him. I guess he hadn't seen this commercial. Finally did convince him and he let me go citation free.

I went with my dad Halloween night 1968 to get a new blue roadrunner that he wanted. My mom and the salesman talked him into a four door automatic satellite 318 instead of the 383 runner, because we had my little sister and they thought the 4 door was more family friendly. I’ve always hated my sister for being born. Lol...I’ve been pissed at my mother (god rest her) for 52 years over that one. I think the price on the runner was $2900 something like $72 a month for 2 years with $100 down. The good old days

Imagine the choice, being able to walk into a Chrysler dealership in 1969 and pick a Barracuda or Roadrunner or Chrysler 300. The only thing that would stand in our way in those days was money - we didn't have any or at least not enough to buy a new car.

A 1968 Roadrunner 383, bare bones, rubber floor mats and vinyl seats was $2800. I'd just got out of the suck and I bought one in 1972 for $1490 on a used car lot. $20 was like a $125 then. Minimum wage was $1.60 and the kids walked to school uphill both ways.

Those were the "Good Ole Days" when there were real cars made in the USA, and not the cookie cutter import shit we have now and most likely forever. Too bad Plymouth is gone and Chrysler is close and needing Jeep and Foreigners (now Fiat) to keep it in Business, no Jeep, no Chrysler, a shame things went this way.

@@gordon3186 Own what? a Plymouth, yes. Mine wasn't crap, got 225,000 miles on a 400 with a 727 and did no more than routine oil changes and maintenance and used it to tow with. I have never owned a Foreign car and never will and know of plenty of family and friends who do and have more than enough problems with them. Every Foreign car Dealership that I have ever seen has repair bays at their Dealerships, translation they also break just like American cars. I also remember how terrible 60's and 70's Toyota's and Honda's were, bumpers falling off, CV joints going bad, unable to get repair parts and smoking oil burning engines which was a really annoying situation if you were driving behind one, yes I owned one (and a Dodge too) and mine weren't crap, they ran great.

@@tedh.8356 --- That isn't the experience I or anyone I know had. There's a reason Japanese cars overtook the market, and it wasn't just fuel economy.

@@gordon3186 They did improve their quality and so did American car Mfg.'s they all had too. It is the experience that I had. I remember a girlfriends Toyota Corolla, would not start after a rain storm!! had to be rolled out of the driveway and have the clutch "popped" to get it to fire...the problem was in the distributor but even a replacement didn't solve the problem, Honda's were worse, they would just drop parts as they ran. It was the experience that I and many other's saw. Every American car that I have owned went easily over 120K no problem. One reason Japanese cars over took the market is that there are parts of our population who seem to think it's not important to support their own country, one that actually started and innovated most of what the rest of the world copied or improved on but did not invent. Prior to the 80's the Japanese were known for making Junk, they learned that they could not continue with that and improved their Quality, I know because I saw it as a kid and teen, I'm 67 and lived it.

Would you prefer that Fiat didn't come and bail Chrysler out of yet another hole they dug for themselves? I love Chrysler vehicles, but jeez, every time they seem like they're on top, they take the express elevator down to the basement.

@Zippy Knowitall yup, in 3 years, these things where rusting, getting engine problems, gunked up carbs, engines if ever made it to 100K miles would be impossible, they where JUNK, been there, don't miss any of it, my 2019 VW Golf R does EVERYTHING better, EVERYTHING, almost 59K miles on it now STILL under a 72k mile 6 year warranty...back then 12k miles all done, Chrysler pushed some longer warranty for a bit, but didn't last. tires, brakes, paint, all junk. My 2019 VW Golf R with a 4 cyl, close to 300 HP will blow the doors off any of the big V8 tire spinning junk. New MK 8 VW golf R (315 HP) 330 ft lbs Tq.does 0-60 in like 4.6 secs! Can drive 171 mph on the autobahn, STOCK, these things at 100 mph would be unusable junk. these things needed oil changes every 3k miles, what a waste, polluted like crazy, interiors cracked and rotted away in no time, paint faded to chalk, in 3 years
