    Great videos, thanks. Inspiring me to try my own top on a 68 Firebird. Having trouble finding parts. I need the front driver rail assembly. Can only find new OEM power top frames. Does the power top attach the same as the manual top frame to the body? I realize I will need the hydraulic parts too. Thanks

    The power top frame, at the rear quarter area, is different than the manual top. Glad my videos inspire others to do it themselves and take pride in their car building skills.

    I have used 3/8 and 1/2. I'm pretty sure half inch round is what came from the factory but I'm not positive and I'm not having any luck finding the facts.

    Hello again, it's been a while since I have watch this, you did a great job with the info you gave. I have a question about the molding around the opening of the convertible top well. Hopefully you can help. I removed it from my car about years or so ago and my car now has a fresh paint job on it and I can't figure out how the clips and molding go back on. Any advise you can offer would be appreciated. Thanks and God Bless!!

  • @riderescue

    Those trim parts are very difficult to get back on without chipping the paint. The clips press onto the pinch weld area of the back window well first. The trim then snaps over those clips. The more clips the better the trim holds on. Put both trim parts together in the center and work your way around both rounded corners. Be careful not to force the trim too much or you will chip the paint. If it looks like you may chip the paint, protect the paint with something like tape. I never did get my trim on perfectly and I have not seen a Camaro with perfect trim fitment either. Good luck!

    @@riderescue Awesome! Thanks for the advise, my painter told me to use low tack tape on that area and to double it up so it's twice as thick. I think it would make me sick if I scratched it, so I will be very careful with it.... Thanks again and God Bless!

    i need to do this on my 67 impala. i bought it with no top on it, so i have no references. it has a frame and all of my tack strips need replaced. what size and thickness does it take and is it a one size for the entire top?

  • @riderescue

    @riderescue

    Жыл бұрын

    I think there is 3 different sizes of tack strips used on most GM top frames. Look into kits from top rebuilding companies for your model and you should be able to find the size and lengths required.

    Well Hello again! I have watch your videos which are a God sent and a plethora of information. I have a question I reinstalled the the back glass in my convertible because the installer forgot to install the well liner, so I installed it but I am not sure how to attach it to the rear seat panel. Any help with this would be appreciated. Thanks again for all your help, hope to hear from you soon. Thanks and God Bless!!

  • @riderescue

    It goes over the rear seat metal panel with spray glue. I used 3M 90 and sprayed both the top edge and front edge of that back seat support as well as sprayed the inside of the well liner along the edge that will pass up and over the metal panel. I also used a screw with a large washer at the ends of that metal panel to keep it from pulling away on the ends.

    Excellent teaching skills, I appreciate your videos, how do you attach the tack strips to the top frame, on my 65 gto it looks like they were stapled to the metal, Thanks.

  • @riderescue

    @riderescue

    The staples are difficult to replace so I glue and screw the track strips. It's a balance of small head screws so that they hold the strip but not get in the way of the other staples that are used to hold the top materials.

    I measure from the center of the chrome trim where the two trim pieces meet up to the center of the rear bow. I also measure both sides from the end of the pad down to make sure the rear bow is straight.

    Yes, tops are very complicate and very time consuming. Many upholstery shops do tops and they are expensive but worth every penny. If someone has the time, patience and skill they may be able to do it themselves and save. It's not just the money, it's the pride of doing something yourself.
