We're looking at a 1968 Ford Mustang GT Fastback in Royal Maroon Paint. The car features a factory 428 CI V8 “Cobra Jet” engine.
The car's Owner is Craig Conner. Craig’s had this car since 1979. Craig shares as a little boy he saw a Mustang and knew that was the right car for him. In 1979 his Uncle found the car and Craig purchased it right away.
ENJOY!

Hi------THIS WAS MY CAR IN 1970's. Your uncle bought this car from me. Was my first car. This was my first car. I bought it in 1976 with 54k miles. I kept it 100% original. I cant believe I'm seeing this!!!! Would LOVE to talk to you about the history! I'm STUNNED! I still have a few pics of the car from way back when. Sold it due to GAS prices

I WON many a Friday Night Lights DRAG RACES..It had 411's. I was told by previous owner the motor was balanced and blueprinted at one point. I put in the 391's. I bought it with 411's. Not driveable. NO GRIP! I have SO MANY STORIES. Before I bought it, it was set up and used for 100% drag racing. I bought it from a Body and Paint guy at Orange Body and Paint where I worked. He restored it. Went thru a divorce and had to sell it. I got lucky....

These cars were fun to drive on DRY pavement. When I was a kid I had a 1965 Fastback and it would swap ends in a heartbeat but once you figured out how to use the gas peddle they were a blast to drive. You had to have a passenger-side mirror though because your blind spot could hide a semi LOL. The 428 was a really good drag motor, lots and lots of torque. My personal favorite ford motor was the 351 short block stroker aka the 427, a bit less weight so somewhat better handling. Great idea to put the gear bender in, makes it a good road car. Thanks, Lou this was a great video as usual.

Beautiful! One of the best looking years for Mustang. I had a ‘67, not a GT though but a coupe with a 200CI with a 3 speed on the floor. It was in around 1974 I had it? You would think it would be gutless but it was a peppy little pony. Paid 250 bucks for it, sold it to a friend who wrote it off in Port Dover Ontario. He was drunk, if I and another buddy in our group had gone with him there would have been 4 of us in that car, so 2 of us would have been in been in the back seat, he did have a front seat passenger already as it was. The roof was crushed in the rear. He rolled the car over in a deep ditch and he bought the “Welcome to Port Dover “ sign. So I might have possibly not be sitting here replying to this video if I and our our buddy had went with him that night. Luckily him and the front seat passenger survived, he had a few cuts and scratches the other guy a broken nose, amazing!

Thanx Lou! My ALL-TIME FAV car is the 1968 Mustang Shelby KR500! I drove a red 1965 Mustang conv. in the mid-70s-1988. I never should have sold that car! It had a rebuilt 289, and rebuilt C-4 tranny. In the late 60s my older bro had the dark green Bullett car. He was a classic car hobbyist and owned about 5 different late-50s-early 70s Muscle Cars, including 2 different Corvette Stingrays.

Fantastic vehicle. Enjoyed the fearsome sound with the performance and appearance improvements, i.e. '69 valve covers, new exhaust pipes, modification of the 4-speed & 3.91 rear end combo with an aftermarket overdrive that allows for lower R's, gas savings, and smoother cruising on top-end trips. Doesn't mention it, but that wicked lick while idling gives the impression of a bigger cam but you don't hear the tapping of a solid lifter, that's because the 428 had a true hydraulic hauler. It was an aggressive cam but more in line with say 470/275. I've always heard the 68 1/2 428 had sandbagged performance ratings due to NHRA taking posted horsepower numbers. She'd fade the closer you got to 5000 R's but on the low side of it, around 47 or 48, she's putting out around 365. I've been told that by people who knew, working at Holmon-Moody in Charlotte back when they had their operation out by the Airport. A boy who used to work in Bud Moore's Shop told me a long time ago that the 428 compression ratio was underrated, on purpose for the street hp ratings, as well. Tip of the hat to the owner for keeping all of the original parts.

First of all the car sounds like 4 Harleys at idle.. Second the Gear Vendor Overdrive is a great addition. You get to retain the Toploader which is bulletproof. I have one in my Mustang with 4:30 gears and the overdrive gives me a final of 3:54. Best of both worlds. In my opinion better than a Tremec Like you I was also a young kid when the Mustang was introduced. It was like hearing the Beatles for the first time. What special times. Plenty of imitators but as they said in the song "the original is still the greatest". As long as you have that ride every time you turn the key you will be a teenager.

I shit you not lou as soon as he hit the gas I said wow and you said wow at the exact time in your video that's the only thing that came to mind instantly it was playing a nice idle tune until he pushed that gas and I couldn't I didn't think all I did was just say wow and it was like an echo because you said it the exact time in your video. That is one beautiful mustang. I've owned mustangs foxbodys mustangs and it reminds me of my old Fox body at the time I had to a 93 and a 1992 but when it comes down to it that car is even more beautiful than they were or ever.. That's all that jumped in my head was wow! I don't even want to know how much thatcar is worth but I do know if I own that I would drive it would not just sit in the garage!!!!!!!

I absolutely hate this car. Why? Because its not mine! LoL. Seriously though - this Stang rawks da howse! Sadly - one day they will outlaw the internal combustion engine in favor of electric cars (which the manufacturing processes for electric components and batteries pollute the hell out of the air anyway) - I just wish I can get rich enough to grab a car like this and refit it as electric, so at least the spirit of the beast survives. But maybe soon, sane minds will prevail and not doom our legendary beauties to the scrap heaps. I'll not hold my breath on it though.
