It turns out that "The Bear" could have been an Hall Of Fame sports caster too! Unbelievably great man with colossal talent! As always, Roll Tide!

I remember seeing the clip of Gene Stallings hugging Coach Bryant after his Texas A&M team won against Alabama in the Cotton Bowl Classic & considering that Coach Bryant had coached Gene Stallings at Texas A&M I don't think Gene Stallings was ever so happy. I think winning against Coach Bryant was probably his biggest win until his Alabama team beat Miami for the National Championship in the 90's. Coach Bryant didn't appear like he was expecting a hug or even wanted one after losing the game but that Gene Stallings had so much love for Coach Bryant that a handshake just wasn't going to do is what makes it stand out to me. That hug may have surprised Coach Bryant at that moment but I think that it made him feel a tiny bit better about NOT winning the game.

I remember watching as a kid & when he would show a big hit he'd say "Bingo, there's a good one. I used to love watching him on Sunday mornings. I was a little too young to watch this year, I was born October 67. But I was a football fan by the time I could walk. I played 1st grade thru 7th grade but I broke my arm playing in 7th grade & never played again. Started playing guitar instead.

@Greg Dawson Jr I was watching that Gator Bowl with my Dad. When Woody Hayes hit the Clemson player we stared at each other in disbelief. The commentators never mentioned it either. Very cool first game to attend. While the 1968 game was my first Iron Bowl I've attended 49 others. Got tickets for the 2020 game purchased and REALLY look forward to a big Bama win in my 51st Iron Bowl.

Yeah, Coach Bryant tried to get Texas A&M to integrate & they told him "That they would be the last to integrate." He replied back "Yes, and you will be the last team on the scoreboard until you do." He told Alabama the same thing & set up a game with USC as the first game of the season. The University of Southern California had a black star running back & they beat Alabama in the first game of the season. So they FINALLY let Coach Bryant start recruiting black players. Wilbur Jackson a very tough minded man with a good heart was the first black to take the field for the Crimson Tide. They've barely looked back ever since!!!

Many schools in the South hadn’t integrated @ this time. You’re looking @ 1968 through 2024 eyeglasses & applying 2024 norms to 1968.
