I hope they are easy to follow along and help out to brings the old classics back to life. New cars are great but these classics just have some beauty about them down to the smallest detail. They are like classic rolex watches! Thanks for always tuning in=)

    Thanks Dan Detail is the real beauty with these old cars I think..Some of the things I come across when looking close at the engineering and work the did 50 years ago I cant believe they were able to do those things!

    Mike, I totally agree, the level of engineering of 50 years ago is totally under appreciated. I appreciate master craftsman such as yourself who take the time to study past techniques and try to closely replicate it as much as possible. Keep those videos coming, your dedication to these classics is much appreciated.

    What a beautiful and detailed restoration! Probably the most authentic restored 67 SWB in the world, congratulations. These videos help me so much to do it properly on my own, thank you very much for that. I agree with you that the available repro aluminum dash trim does not meet the standard of the genuine ones, particularly with regards to the machined surface which looks and feels much deeper in the original ones on my 1968 SWB. Do you see any chance to reproduce high quality ones in cooperation for example with Buttys Bits? However there are repros I think there still would be a market...

    Hello spochtfahrer, Thank you for such a high compliment Im not sure what the future brings but I'm open to ideas and also collaborating with others. I will give this some though and see where we go after the car is finished. This dash trim to reproduce by hand was extremely time consuming and dangerous. Im sure there must be other ways to mass replicate. Thanks for the interest and idea Cheers!

    Mike, Your approach is so meticulous. One thing about which I have wondered is how much time you put into researching the processes and techniques used in each phase of the restoration. You display such a detailed knowledge of how the components should be assembled and work properly together as well the various techniques to restore them.

    Mike, that metal part of the ashtray is supposed to come out and flip up. It protects the dash from a lit cigarette. The idea was that you can't always be careful when dumping ash into your ashtray while driving. You need to look at the road in front of you and sometimes you could touch the dash with it. ;) Another great video btw! Thank you!

    Hi Veltruski It Makes sense it should comes up ..couldn't get it to seat properly when flipping up and rubbing the new trim..I will have another look at it and see..she definitely needs some lube on the guide after the refresh that could be some of the issue. Will check it out and follow up. Thanks for sharing!

    Hi Mike - I don't know how it took me so long to discover your channel. The work you do is so ridiculously awesome I can't even handle it. As an impact bumper 911 owner you are showing a tremendous amount about the internal bits of the car, and I don't get to see that very often on my own car. Keep up the great work! You think you'll be done in time for RRVI? I'm driving across the country in mine to attend - can't wait!

    Hi Huybrecht Thank you & welcome to the channel The car is still much work to be done in progress as i am a hobbyist rather than a professional restoration shop I move a little bit slower depending on how much spare time I can contribute weekly Probably one more year before driving her around is my guess.. But will keep the detailed videos coming have a great time at the reunion=) One day I will attend!

    With the engine out when I saw the aluminum trim I was sure you were working on a 912. I drove a 1964 911 that same year and recall the dash had a wood veneer, and I think a wood rimmed steering wheel. My Dad purchased an early 912 and the dash definitely was aluminium. Is my recollection accurate?

  • @MikesRestorations

    @MikesRestorations

    4 жыл бұрын

    Yes you are correct The earliest 911s & 912s had wood dash trim and wooden steering wheels. It was about mid 66 year and models built in 66 for the 67 year aluminum trim and different wheels were introduced. Exact production numbers the new style im not sure..the Porsche historians would know better than me. 66 was kind of a cross over year..some materials & aesthetics were slowing evolving

    Actually I have done some research, the 911 was introduced to the world in 1964 with the wood dash, jibes with my recollection. The 912 was introduced one year later in 1965 with the aluminum dashboard, I don't know when the 911 went to aluminium
