I've heard that this is a nasty kit. There's a challenge going on to build this GTO as best as you can. I've never built it, but I'm up for a challenge! My favorite primer is Stylylrez. It's an acrylic primer from Badger. No thinning, just used it straight from the bottle. It always does a grea job and comes in a lot of different colors.

I thin Vallejo surface primer with airbrush thinner and some retarder despite their claim that you can use it right from the bottle. I also add a few drops of future to it. I’ve found that helps make it sandable.

THANK YOU!!! I was just told to do this with their paints as well, so I'll be trying this with the surface primer now and see how it goes.

7:53 - I agree. I never sent pics of my cars to magazines or entered them in contests. It was enough that I knew they were right.

I just started this kit today, and I wholeheartedly agree on the challenges with fitment! Very frustrating and time consuming, for sure. The instructions are also poor, at least compared to what I am accustomed to. Thanks for doing this video (and part 2)!

Thank you and you're very welcome. I should be posting more on this build soon. I needed to source another body as a backup in case I ruined the first one. It's been a fun build, but will take a lot of patience and effort to due the amazing Pontiac GTO justice! LOL Thank you for subbing to the channel and take care.

@@WhiteGloveModels BTW, I share your frustration with Vallejo primer. I had all kinds of trouble getting it to stick well; it would never quite harden no matter how long it cured. I tried using a hardener, which helped a lot, but it was a pain to clean up. I now am using Stynylrez and love it!

I got my donor body in so will be getting back to work on the GTO. I will be using the Stynylrez for sure, and then should be able to start getting things painted up and put together. How is your build coming along?

Did you ever see the one that was molded in blue? Man, that was pretty!! OBTW: if you paint the inside of the panel lines black, immediately after scoring them, it looks great. I rarely use flat black. Painting a "wash" with flat back takes away the appearance of depth that a "wash" is used for. For example, if you "wash" a grill with flat black, you can see that the entire grill is one piece. If you "wash", try using classic black by Testors. It'll look more realistic than flat black. Same for all chrome parts. I know I'm "talking" too much. Sorry. I love model building but no one in my family shares my enthusiasm for it.

I have that light blue version and it is pretty. I just keep it unbuilt in the box it looks so nice.

The Revell GTO was more detailed, but this is not a bad kit. Here's my only gripe: I believe the body was once part of a snap-kit. On the radiator wall there are two posts that held the screws (used to secure the front of the chassis to the body). I cut those off and I was in the process of filling them in with Milliput when I found the Revell kit. In my experience, MPC kits are hit or miss. Round2 has improved MPC kits. Round2 has also "done right" by AMT kits. Lindbergh kits (also Round2) were underrated, IMHO.

That's really good to know. Thank you. I did notice that it looked like there were areas for screws but no screws in the kit. I would like to get the Revell GTO. I wish Tamiya would produce kits for the older muscle cars. Thanks again for the info and for watching.
