54th signal 1969-1970,1st tour,52nd sig can tho 1970-1971.Will never forget my Vietnamese friends,
Great Pictures My wife is from Nha Trang, and we have a house their now She has some photos also of back then in 1967 and it has really change since then. But if you look really hard you can still see some things from back then. The train station is still there and the runway at the airport is still visible. The beaches are still beautiful as always and the island just of the beach is turn into a beautiful resort. I never was in Nha Trang back then but was in Da Nang in 1968 it was ok but to me Nha Trang is more beautiful. Thanks again for the photos brings back a lot of memories.

After almost one half of the century , we're watching Nhatrang being vividly back in the old time of the historic war . The rhythms of the video's music is tunable just like the voices of people' souls , who were fighting, lost their lives and died for a duty , what they would need to do for their own country ...
Thanks for you service

Tuy hoa was my hometown
Very nice collection of photos from the early days. Much had changed by the time I arrived in 1970. My first reaction back then was surprise about how much things were built up and seemed so permanent, in Nha Trang, Cam Ranh and other major bases. Thanks for sharing.

Cam on ,chuong trinh nay ,goi lai nhung ky niem ,mot thoi nho mai ,ok .
Definitely an early version of what Nha Trang looked like compared to the time I served there (1971-1972) when it was more built up. But still saw many reflections of what I remember. I'm sure nothing is left of the US military site there now after all theses years, but those memories of the medical aid station I worked in, the nearby bunkers, the flight line, the hooches, etc. will continue to remain as vivid in my mind as they were 50 years ago. So wish I had taken tons of photos back then but that never entered my mind at the time. Thanks for sharing.

Nha Trang is a modern city now. The Camp McDermott area in completely developed now. Look for photos on Google Maps.
Last stop for me was Pleiku , then west to dak-tko. with 4th inf. div. 69th armor . First day out on patrol was issued a M16 a2 with one 10 round clip. 1969
My dad is still keeping a painting describing a sea port near Tuy Hoa in Vietnam war. I don't know who drew it but pretty sure it was drew by a Korean soldier artist in the time 1966-1967. Maybe it's also drew by a US soldier. Really want to find the information of that soldier but don't know how.

I have no direct knowledge, but I know that our vehicles and heavy equipment traveled by ship from Charlston, South Carolina to Nha Trang, where they were offloaded in December 1966. A few months later, much of it was reloaded on a ship at Nha Trang for transportation to Qui Nhon. There are photos of the loading process in one of my videos.

Một thời chiến tranh.
I really enjoyed watching this, showed a side of the Vietnam experience not usually seen. I have viewed many other slide shows, and this is far above all the rest. Thank You for documenting your time there and sharing, and also for your commitment to the Army. Best Wishes and Cheers, Paul

Thank you, Laura! Although many of the photos are my own, most were taken by other veterans in my unit, the 167th Signal Company, over the five year period it was in country. We have annual reunions where photos are shared.

31M20, (First tour) First signal brigade, 596 signal Battalion (Charlie Company I think memory?) Phu Bai Republic of Vietnam. Spent the majority of my time on a crew AN/MRC-69 & SF-10 generators providing communications to fire bases operated by 101 Airborne. Half the time as crew chief SP-4. Went back to the states assigned to Fort Carson part of fifth Army signal Returned to Vietnam served with the fourth infantry division signal Battalion Crew chief MRC-69 again on fire basis left SGT.E-5. I'll say one thing those troopers in Iraqi & Afghanistan had a harder time than I did, God bless them.
