1966 Pontiac Grand Prix Gets Put Back On The Road For The First Time In Decades!

We bought this 1966 Pontiac Grand Prix on an auction in central Nebraska. The previous owner purchased this car, as well as several others, in the late 80s-early 90s and never got around to restoring them. All of the cars sat dormant in various barns until the auction. This Grand Prix was the first of seven cars that we purchased from the estate to be put back on the road! It has a 389 CI engine and an automatic transmission. The car was put back to roadworthy condition after some tinkering! Stay tuned to see the other cars from the same estate be brought back to life.

It amazes me you can locate these classics. Back here on the west coast, classics are no where to be found. And if they are prices are through the roof.

I watch other car channels (spend too much time), but luv me a Pontiac. First car: '65 GTO convertible, 389, 4-speed, baby blue interior and exterior. Had it for two years and engine blew. Had to sell it. Third car: '73 Grand Am, Yellow Bird. Had for 20 years before it hopelessly rusted out. Fourth car: '76 Trans Am. Piece of junk. Everything - and I mean EVERYTHING - went bad on that thing before it came close to 50k miles. Dream car: '64 GTO convertible, 389, 4-speed, all stock. Dwell setting: There used to be a special tool with an Allen head, flexible shaft (part or full) and screwdriver style handle that is really handy and makes it so much easier. And reduces the chance of "coil shock." As for Atlas, I think that was a house brand for Standard Oil maintenance parts their gas stations installed back in that era. Before it was renamed Exxon in 1973 and the service stations that did repair work were replaced by mini-marts.

Take a box wrench and tap that starter casing. After thirty some years of sitting some things need a gentle tap or two. Just a suggestion. Good luck.

Thanks for being a fellow admirer of vintage Pontiacs & for bringing these comatose cars back to life. It’s obvious you’re an excellent mechanic. Do you plan to advertise your cars at a website? If you’ll give me the web address I’ll pass it along to my friends. -All the Best from Stephen in Texas
