The 7 Litre story: Ford's short stroke 427 liked to live at high rpms while the long stroke 428 delivered tugboat type torque. While the 427 was killing it at the dragstrip, the 428 torque monster was a lot more cruiser friendly. It could handle comfort options like air conditioning, power steering and brakes much better too. So Ford introduced the 428 in the sporty full sized Galaxie 500. Each one came standard with bucket seats, a console, disc brakes, dual exhaust and the beefy C6 automatic. This one has just finished a body off frame restoration. It's serviced and ready to be enjoyed.
EXTERIOR: The body is mint. There is no rust, bubbles, or damage. It's straight and fits right. Repainted Rangoon Red and it is polished smooth and glossy. The jambs are painted slick. The chrome is shiny and straight. It has a remote mirror and metal door edge guards. The weatherstrips and window seals were replaced. Cool set of hubcaps unique to a 7 Litre and they are in mint shape.
INTERIOR: It's luxury sportiness! Not only does it have bucket seats with a console, but the driver seat is power, and the passenger seat is a rare recliner with an extendable headrest. The seats and door panels have been reupholstered. The carpet was replaced, it has sound deadener underneath it. The headliner looks new. The dash pad is in excellent shape. Instrument area is in very good original condition, uncut or broken. New reproduction deluxe steering wheel. The interior lights all work including in the glovebox.
ENGINE COMPARTMENT: The optional 7 Litre 428 motor makes 345 hp and a brutal 459 lbs of torque! The motor was completely rebuilt. The original 4 barrel carb was rebuilt. It's all stock- manifolds, valve covers, air cleaner etc. It has factory a/c and we rebuilt the system. It also has power steering and brakes. Everything looks proper- battery us secured, horns work, squirters are hooked up, it has the fan shroud etc. Everything is painted really nice too.
TRUNK COMPARTMENT: Under the trunk lid and the jamb are glossy. Inside is clean metal with a neat spatter finish paint. New liner kit includes side panels and a red and gray speckled mat. It also includes a jack and spare assembly. The decal and weatherstrip were replaced.
UNDERSIDE: We have pictures of the body off the frame for restoration. The floors are very dry, clean original metal. They were prepped and painted gray. The front end steering and suspension has been completely rebuilt. The dual exhaust was replaced and has a crossover pipe, glass pack style mufflers and resonators. It has factory disc brakes in front which was still a rare feature in 1966. The lines, hoses were replaced, the e-brake assembly is hooked up. The fuel system has been replaced. Looking up at the motor it looks new, the starter is fresh. It has the heavy duty C6 automatic trans, it was completely rebuilt. Original 3.25 gears in the back.
SERVICE: We inspected the car and repaired the reverse lights, rebuilt the carb, replaced master cylinder, and bled the system, repaired a window switch. We went through the a/c system: replaced the compressor, expansion valve, dryer and low pressure hose. It was charged with r134 freon.
This is a rare and unique car. It's powerful, sleek and comfortable! The restoration would cost far more than what we are asking. Someone will get a lot of enjoyment from this one.
I, Jay Grams, take pride in personally writing the descriptions for virtually every car for about the last 30 years now. A significant amount of effort goes into fact checking. What I am offering is my professional impression of the vehicle. Our salesmen are happy to assist with descriptions and making sure your questions are answered. One great suggestion is letting us do a walk around video that explains the car's condition in detail. **These cars are displayed in a museum. If interested in a particular car, make an appointment with a salesman to see that car. Without an appointment there is an admission fee to enter the showroom. If you buy a car, your admission will be refunded, and you will be given a 1 year membership.

The 428 was a stormer. If you look at Ford NHRA recordholders, they all are 428s. Fantastic car.

Oh yeah I remember. The burgandy one! He said he tricked his dad into loading it up with options and making it a fire-breather. LOL I like when he said his dad riffed when he heard the exhaust!

I love Adam 12, and you’ll see these Galaxie 500’s from time to time. And lots of em on Andy Griffith. But they are probably not 428’s. And for hubcaps…those are one of the best looking ones!
