1966 Dodge D200 3/4 Ton Sweptline - Ride along

1966 Dodge D200 3/4 Ton Sweptline - Ride along - We wanted to share our first video of our Fargo Truck with you in the passenger seat. This truck is a 1966 Dodge ¾ Ton D200 Sweptline with 3 on the tree pushing a 4.10 rear-end. Breathing into this machine has to go past the original oil-bath air filter yes we still use it. The only addition to this truck from factory is the Tach on the dash and a few smelly interior air filters from time to time. At some point in time, during its 40k, the truck was painted grey. This summer we plan to bring her back to her original sea-foam color with a little rust added and we hope you join us for that. I must say this is a dream to drive and love every second in the driver's seat as it brings me back in time. Make sure to Subscribe and give this video a thumbs up!

I once owned a 1966 Dodge D-200 crew cab 4 on the floor, four door large slant six with 4WD (high/low) and in dash AM radio. I bought it surplus from Griffiths AFB in 1978 and drove it for 18 years. It had gone round the clock four times for a total of 428,000 miles without anything mechanical done to it except new body mounts on the chassis. Had to make them, too. The "DODGE" on the hood lost the letters D and E that broke off , so it read DOG. Lots of people probably remember that truck because I added a snowplow to it and plowed driveways for extra money. The truck never let me down, kept me warm in the Winter (and in upstate NY that was something) and never broke down. That was when they made TRUCKS that didn't dent when you leaned on it. I used to go camping in that truck by taking the rear seat out and putting a mattress in it's place, it was huge inside compared to today's trucks. The only bad on that truck was the split rims, getting 16" tires mounted was a dangerous chore and then finding someone to balance them. I always put mud and snow tires on it, had Sumner tires on four extra rims. It got 20 mpg no matter what driving I did with it weighed down or empty. It was Air Force blue until I had it painted Forest Green, not O.D. green. This was the best truck I ever had until I bought a 1968 Ford F-350 4WD with the 300 cu in straight six and transferred the plow to it and sold the Dodge for twice what I paid for it originally. The Dodge didn't owe me a dime, it was a keeper and I should have kept it.

I have a Fargo 200 from 1962 (not sure). The dashboard is a little older and have the original am radio just in the middle. It was all original until my father change the motor for a Nissan ED33 with a manual 5 gear . Great truck. Right now is sitting under a cover for almost 10 years in my garage waiting for better times. Greetings from Asuncion, Paraguay.

Thanks for showing us Dog! Like many guys here I had a 66 D200, bought it for 300 bucks it was an ex USAF rig, at some point some one took off the utiline bed and put on a flat bed, but it came with the bed. It had a tree growing thru the hood it pushed it straight up, ya know how those old hood hinges allowed you total unencumbered access to work on the 225 tower of power. So I drug it home, cleaned the carb put Vaseline on the accelerator pump leather cup, spayed the points with some contact cleaner kinda eye balled the opening of them, flushed the radiator, changed the oil, put a fresh battery in her, fixed bad wire from starter solenoid. Turned the key and pow fired right up! I drove the DOG for a long time using it for Dive gigs I had locally. I put a water injector on it, it went from 11.5MPG to 12.7MPG. I let some guy talk me into selling it too him for 2800 bucks. The only thing I neglected to do was check the rear gear oil and she blew didn't take me long to source one out of a 70 W200 threw it in and away it went. I still see it bombing around town its changed hands a couple of times since I had it. Now im driving a rescued 71 W200 800 bucks shes a beast. I love old Dodges.

@@barndiy825 Very simple made out of a mayo jar, an old Maxwell house plastic coffee container to hold the jar on fender, an air diffuser (online or from an aquarium store) and a plastic "T" to break into you vacuum hose, glue the diffuser and vacuum hose so it reaches just above bottom of jar. You will have to seal the lid with a rubber gasket, Second hole in lid will be the 90 degree plastic fitting that runs too your vacuum line on carb you can adjust the amount of vapor by the diffuser, use distilled water in it. email me at my user name and gmail all one word and ill send you pics. simple cheap and effective, they used them on fighters in WWII. never have to clean your plugs again (well not as often) and you carb will be cleaner as well. I m gonna put one on my 71 W200 I saved it from when I sold the 66.

@@barndiy825I think many of these trucks have worn suspensions and steering, brakes - owners don't repair them, so they sit and rust. This era of truck is relatively inexpensive to repair. As the windshields leak they rust the floorboards, but its not too hard to patch them up.

@@barndiy825 My '61 Sweptline uteline short bed was a farm truck. It has a little rust under the accelerator pedal, but is otherwise solid and dent free with good bed wood. I am going through pretty much every mechanical part. I've changed to a later 8 3/4 with parking brakes as '61 has the p/b on the transmission. A '67 NP435. New clutch, brakes, rebuilt starter - honestly there isn't that much to these trucks to replace. I'm using disk brakes on the front axle and CPP powersteering - manual steering was okay with me but this CPP system came my way. New kingpins, suspension bushings, shocks, tires. But no paint, it was once blue but is faded to the primer. Slant six does not have any sludge in it - that's probably because '61 has a road draft tube and no PCV.
