The Chevrolet Impala (/ɪmˈpælə, -ˈpɑːlə/) is a full-size car built by Chevrolet for model years 1958 to 1985, 1994 to 1996, and 2000 onward. The Impala is Chevrolet's popular flagship passenger car and is generally among the better selling American made automobiles in the United States.[4][5]For its debut in 1958, the Impala was distinguished from other models by its symmetrical triple taillights. The Chevrolet Caprice was introduced as a top-line Impala Sport Sedan for model year 1965, later becoming a separate series positioned above the Impala in 1966, which, in turn, remained above the Chevrolet Bel Air and the Chevrolet Biscayne. The Impala continued as Chevrolet's most popular full-size model through the mid-1980s. Between 1994 and 1996, the Impala was revised as a 5.7-liter V8-powered version of the Chevrolet Caprice Classic sedan. In 2000, the Impala was reintroduced again as a mainstream front-wheel drive car.[6] As of February 2014, the 2014 Impala ranked #1 among Affordable Large Cars in U.S. News & World Report's rankings.[7] When the tenth generation of the Impala was introduced for the 2014 model year, the ninth generation was rebadged as the Impala Limited and sold only to fleet customers through 2016. During that time both versions were sold in the United States and Canada. The current-generation Impala is also sold in the Middle East, China, and South Korea.
In 1965, Chevrolet introduced a new luxury package for the Impala four-door hardtop, called "Caprice" and coded as RPO Z18. Caprices received tufted upholstery, wood grained accents on the dashboard and specialty pulls on the insides of the doors. This "halo" model also featured the "spinner" wheel covers from the Impala SS, with the "SS" logo centers replaced by a Chevrolet "bowtie" emblem. The Super Sport's blackout rear trim strip below the triple taillights was also used, with the "Impala SS" emblem replaced by a large "Caprice by Chevrolet" badge. The Impala block lettering on each front fender was replaced with "Caprice" script. The Caprice package was reintroduced as the Chevrolet Caprice Custom in 1966, taking the top position in the full-size Chevrolet lineup.Engine choices included the inline six-cylinder as well as the small-block and big-block V8s. A new three-range Turbo Hydra-Matic automatic transmission was optional for 396 cu in (6.5 L) V8. The old 409 cu in (6.7 L) "W" engine was discontinued early in the 1965 model year, so early-production 1965s got the 409, as well as 1/10 of 1% had the 396 CID big-block. Other later-built cars had the 396 cu in (6.5 L) as the big-block option. Two-speed Powerglide, as well as 3- and 4-speed manual transmissions were available. As with previous years, Impalas featured more chrome trim inside and out, with pleated tufted upholstery and door panels. The Impala would be the #2-selling convertible in the US in 1966, with 38,000 sold; it was beaten by the Mustang by almost 2:1.[22] 1966 saw a pair of enlarged big-block V8s featuring 427 cu in (7.0 L). The RPO L36 was rated at 385 hp (287 kW), the L72 at 425 hp (317 kW). The L72 was only available with a manual transmission.
The 1966 Impala SS was facelifted with a revised grille and new rectangular taillights that replaced the triple round units. A chrome beltline strip shared with regular Impalas was added in response to complaints about door dings on the clean-lined 1965s. Inside were new "Strato-bucket" front seats with thinner and higher seat backs, and a center console with an optional gauge package available. Sales of the 1966 Impala SS dropped by more than 50% to around 117,000 units; this was mainly due to the sport/performance car market switching from full-sized models to intermediates (including Chevrolet's own Chevelle SS396 and Pontiac GTO), along with the emerging market for the even smaller pony car market created by the Ford Mustang in 1964 that Chevrolet would respond to with the Camaro for 1967.

Ahhh 1966, the year my Uncle decided I needed to begin my trip through the jungle. But I do remember this Chevy (neighbor's new car) as the last new car I saw for several years (magazines, yea). What a memory flogger. Your detailing is superb as are your choice of options - spot on. Skinny whitewalls were a real status symbol for a while, as were FULL hubcaps not them "dog dishes". Thank you, once again for sharing...

I bought this model primarily because it’s a 66, my birth year. I have a few ideas about a low rider paint job. I have a few kits ahead of this one but it looks like a fun kit to build up. Great build. The classics are so cool to see.

Great build !! I miss my '66, it was my first new car and I had it until 10 years ago when it was stolen and wound up in a "chop shop". Of course insurance did not cover the true value of the car. Brand new I bought it for $3,400 fully loaded. Mine was Marina Blue.

Wow ! Chris, this is definitely the best Chevy Impala model I have ever seen anybody do. You painted it my favorite color. If I bought this kit, I would probably paint it blue as well. I use to build Lowrider bicycles and I joined a small Lowrider car club that wanted a Lowrider bicycle chapter. And I was cruising it one day when a large Hispanic man was in his front yard and he flagged me down because he wanted to look at my bicycle. He had a 66 Chevy Impala Lowrider parked in his front yard. It was blue as well. Then he introduced me to his younger brother who showed me his 64 Impala he was restoring. I will admit at first I was a little afraid of these guys because they looked tough and mean but they were really cool to me and invited me to come back to their house for dinner. Great job. I love your channel ! Keep up the good work !

My Uncle (Dad’s younger brother) bought a four door hardtop Impala new in ‘66. I remember it as a kid as I was five-six years old at the time. It was I think the first new car I can remember seeing.......mostly finned stuff our family had around that time I was seeing. Beautiful job on that one Chris! I had the ‘65 Chevy convertible kit, sold it, now I want another one! GM styling was at its best during those years.......not an ugly one in the bunch! 👍

Nice build! As a GM guy, the 66 sport coupe has always been one of my favorite body styles for the Imp. Personally, I'd do it black on black, but, it's your build. I'm almost finished with my build combining two Revell 78 GMC plow trucks into one truck with an 8' bed. Next up will be brazing a car trailer together out of brass tubing for it to "pull". The trailer will also have stained/weathered scale wood for the deck. The "barn find" Camaro that will ride on the trailer is finished and collecting dust in the garage. When the trailer is finished, I'll hit the Camaro, dust and all, with a flat clear, then chain it down on the trailer. Mating the two truck kits to make one with an 8' bed has definitely been a challenge, but, it's also been a lot of fun. I can't wait to find out how challenging the trailer will be!

Turns out they had one after all. Actually picked one one up and unboxed it. This is super sweet kit...fit and finish appears to be great. Guys who are into the old iron or old Impala super sports should give this kit a shot. The lowrider spoker rims look great as well as the whitewall tires. Like you said...could build it a lot of ways. Or go crazy with bare metal or Molotov marker. Or go totally lowrider mode and candy or pearl paints. Very cool kit that's as easy to build as you want it to be or you can go over the top nuts and super detail it. Buy one and build it YOUR way!

Very nice job on a classic my dad once owned!!! I can recommend 'Dr. Drybooth' by MicroMark. A very nice compact booth to accelerate the drying time of plastic models!!! Recently while painting a tractor trailer for a client I purchased this booth and it really speeds up the assembly time and really bakes the paint onto the model.......... just a suggestion. I'm sure there are a number of ways to accelerate the drying time of a plastic model but this worked the best for me in my current living situation....

Hello, again. I just wanted to tell you that I really enjoy your Vids. I have looked at other guys who kind of do the same thing. I enjoy you best. I have noticed that the newest releases have printed tiers. I have some of the same kits from a few years ago. Mine are older and they do not have the printed tires or extra tires. Even the decals have dash decals that the older ones don't. Makes me want to sell them and buy the newer ones, LOL. Thank you for this review and build. I really enjoyed it. I've been looking at your Vids for a while now. I've seen all of them. Thanks again.

Hey Chris, you should do a tutorial on doing dashboard detailing with your silver pen, would be very interesting to watch you do that! I am sure many that watch your channel would appreciate it!
