1966 Cadillac Coupe DeVille - Air Suspension Installation
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
Alright, hour-long videos aren't your thing? Well good- that Continental video was a chore to edit anyway!
This time, we're working on a 1966 Caddy. These cars are a LOT easier to install air suspension onto than the 61-69 Lincolns, and as you can see they get CRAZY low!
Follow along as I cover some of the basics installing front and rear suspension kits from Choppin' Block, along with Air Lift Performance 3H management.

Choppin block makes great products! I bagged my c-10 using the front and back half they sell, after seeing this video it’s makes me want to re-do my Cadillac with this kit

We just fixed a ‘68 Caddy a couple weeks ago- kept the stock front suspension in place but rebuilt with new bushings and ball joints, and found a spot to sneak some shocks. Definitely recommend the Choppin’ Block kit over reworking the stock stuff- so much easier and I think the ride is a bit smoother.

Thank you for making this video right here. I also have the Choppin Block front suspension for 66 Deville 4dr Hardtop. And I was getting confused with it as it don't have any instructions.
Thanks man. That was helpful.
glad I can ck owning this car off my bucket list!!! only owned it for two weeks lol

Before this kit I had a much larger (in circumference) airbag cups that appeared to sit more level. The cups that come with the kit are much lower and flimsier. I noticed the spring cup surface on the frame is not even and therefore the airbag cup (the supplied smaller one) sits at an angle facing outwards towards the wheel. Did you experience this?

Any idea what the part number is for the smaller oil filter?
What size wheels do you have on this beauty?
is there a 1963 kit available? I'm already lowered but I want to lay frame, I'm 2-3 away from it.
how did you run the lines to your front bags? @twisted Images
@twistedimages405

We ran both front lines along the passenger frame rail, following the fuel and brake lines on that side. They come up along the firewall, then drop down into the spring pockets with a straight fitting on the air bag.
Hi! This is my dream car! I love the video. What size of tires and wheels do you have on this beauty?

I’m currently doing a choppin block install on my 66, what size wheel and tyre do you run? Did you have trouble with the top of the front wheel arch?
@twistedimages405

This one was on 20” wheels, and I don’t recall the tire size but it wasn’t very tall. We didn’t have any front clearance issues. There’s a ‘68 coming in next week- I’ll check that one out and see what we run into!

@@twistedimages405 awesome, hopefully we’ll be ok, at the moment it’s on standard wheels and 29” tall tyres but I’d like to put 20’s on with shorter tyres, thanks for the fast reply man! Really appreciate that 👍🏻
Thank you so much for making this video! I can tell you that the CB front shock mounts will not work with a 69. Why did you choose a 7-in bag? I don't know which bag to choose
@twistedimages405
2 жыл бұрын
What causes them not to work on a 69? Is it the oil filter or something else? We like to run the 7” bag to reach ride height at a lower pressure- it’s a bit more work to get them in there but this thing hits full lift at around 100psi and rides great at around 75psi.

Did you install any bushing at the control arm to radiator support?
@twistedimages405
Жыл бұрын
I'm sorry I didn't see this message sooner! The Choppin' Block front kit replaces the stock bushing setup on the tension rod with an adjustable heim joint. This could allow a bit more road vibration to travel through the suspension and into the steering wheel than a rubber bushing, but in our experience it doesn't make much of a difference in NVH and the extra articulation without binding is definitely needed!
What airbag system did you go with???Name….also I have a 63 Caddy will it work on mine??? Thanks

www.twistedimages.com/Stage-3-Air-Suspension-System-with-Air-Lift-Management-58-70-Cadillac_p_1542.html We used this system, with the optional height sensors, a second air tank, and upgraded to dual Viair 485C compressors. We also installed the Choppin’ Block front and rear kits, which are a lot easier and less expensive for your ‘63: www.twistedimages.com/61-64-Cadillac_c_641.html If you have any questions feel free to reach out- I’ll be happy to help put a kit together for you! -Phil

Yeah! Once you calibrate the system, you’ll have three programmable presets for ride height. The technology has really advanced since I started playing with this stuff back in the 90s!
Hey there, I have 69 sedan that’s already bagged but want to put shocks bk on bc it rides sooo much better. So really only way to do this is to install this setup. Can I use the bags I have (airlift) and my frame where shock mounts go is lil different than 66.?? Will it work on 69 ?? Thanks
@twistedimages405
Жыл бұрын
What size Air Lift bags do you have currently? Their D2500 should fit fine with the Choppin’ Block setup, but fitting the D2600 might be a tight squeeze. Shock brackets shouldn’t be an issue- this kit is made to fit 65-69 Cadillacs so you should be good to go!

Not too difficult to do, but will completely change your front suspension and need alignment thereafter. On my 64 requires you to remove the sway bar and my suspensions is now a mess. It keeps swaying uncontrollably now.
Are these systems good for lifting more so, ? Im green and need for clearance and smoother ride for bigger rims , would you recommend this set and what kind for that and brand.
@twistedimages405
28 күн бұрын
These systems are designed more for lowering, but they get a good amount of lift when fully aired up. You may be able to add spacers between the air bag mounts and bags to get another couple inches of lift, although the car wouldn't go quite as low when you aired down. Let me know if you have any questions and I'll be happy to help!

The Stage 1 version of this kit doesn't require any major cutting, although you will need to trim the front spring pockets to make clearance for the air bags. There's plenty of drilling needed for the threaded inserts to mount the rear suspension and front shocks. But other than that it's all basic hand tool stuff.
I want to thank you for making this video! I’m also installing the same kit in my 66……did you have it aligned once completed?
@twistedimages405

I hope it helps! Yes, we had it aligned at the same time as the exhaust work was being done since they’re across the street from each other. I can get toe pretty dialed with a tape measure but with everything being replaced it needed a real alignment haha

I’ve got another question! Did you leave the link bars the same length as stock setup or adjust pinion angle with new setup hanging on new shocks?
@twistedimages405

@@russellcampbell7658 we built all of the bars to stock lengths, and as far as I know the alignment shop didn’t adjust them significantly. Pinion angle seemed to stay pretty consistent throughout the range of motion and it drove great at all heights.
