1965 panhead #127 74ci flh motor rebuild and bike repair harley by tatro machine
the customer purchased the 1965 panhead a few years ago and has been sitting ever since. the motor needed a rebuild so that is getting done now. the chassis is being checked out and repaired as needed to make a good rider out of it. when you buy an old bike this is what you get and what you need to do to have fun with it.

Putting the shoes on the backing plate is like setting a bear trap!

Thinking it may be the cable end of the lever slid down and is draging on the outside edge of the drum.

on my first HD, I had drum brakes. The squeeeeeeekingist damn brakes I have ever heard. lol They did work but after riding in the rain, the next day was some grabbing brakes. sure glad they came up with the disk brakes.

I'm a "wrist mechanic". I can't see you being selfish enough to visit an extremity chiropractor so might I suggest you at least "exercise" your wrist(s) by in your down time pull back on your fingertips with the opposite hand (inducing wrist extension we call it), holding for an optimum of 20 minutes to stretch the counter pull ligaments in th palm side of the forearm. This "cock up" position tends to naturally reset the carpal bones correctly. They even make a cheap splint to hold this while you sleep etc. www.amazon.com/Therapists-Choice®-Ambidextrous-Cock-Up-Splint/dp/B017O86YDC/ref=sr_1_5_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1541093718&sr=8-5&keywords=cockup+splint

Regarding the allen wrench for the brake drum lug nuts, why don't you cut it off and then tack weld it to a cheap appropriate sized socket. (I believe it's a 7/16 but I can't be sure) That way you could use a ratchet with an extension. It would be a lot quicker putting the the bolts on and off and would keep your knuckles clear of the forks and axle.

would rotating the entire wheel 20 degrees clockwise gotten it away from the axle?? That can't be correct I'm not that smart. Probably hits fork tube??

No fret. Anybody that wrenches has long-forgotten part- or wrench-shaped divots in the walls. Hell, you summed it up on the lathe; it's lighter. Custom!

seems with all the camera crews around Mexifornia there should be some that need a little work. Might even do it for free just to get some practice.
