Our buddy Troy brought over this fine example of a Ludwig " Club Date" 20" 12" 14" set that needed a good going over. Nice set Troy! Enjoy!

Beautiful drum set, very nice indeed, they'd cost an arm and leg over here in the UK, so I'm playing more modern drums. A Drum Craft maple 7 piece including 14x6.5" snare. It's a great set... not that vintage Ludwig or Gretsch sound but still very nice indeed. I also own a couple of other sets, a MIJ Pearl GLX and MIJ DX Professional, in Cherry Wood stain with lacquered shells, interiors lacquered as well, it's another amazing sounding set, has 45° cut bearing edges so really let's you take it easy and get familiar with finger grip techniques. This is an amazing channel, I love your approach to restoring these old classics, it's great to watch and reassuring in a way, what with all of the cancel culture and everything being disposable, your atypical capitalism gone wrong model. Keep up the good work. 👍

They are made to be played! Excellent. I got a player’s grade set of 57 WFL Club Dates. I refinished them and play them all the time. Love them!

Very cool! I have a green sparkle 65 club date. 67 Supraphonic. I agree, Bruce. Leave the old edges alone if at all possible.

Great job Bruce! I just got a red sparkle club date bass drum I'm going to put a set together around. We need to reconnect, I wonder if I know who bought the blue sparkle set.

Not to seem like I'm complaining, but were you totally "stoned" when you edit this? You kept showing the same segments one after another. I mean "I'm Stoned" but not "That Stoned!" lol. That aside, beautiful job & set. Nice work.

I've had old Ludwigs that had terrible shell edges from the factory, very rough-cut. Does it hurt the value to clean-up the edges? Is it still a bad idea if the edges are rough?

Depends on what you call " terrible edges". I would never touch the edges on a vintage drum with a router, which is the standard way nowadays. As soon as that white paint is tampered with, the vintage value goes down by a 1/3 if not more. Seems like people tend to try and get a " modern" sound out of a vintage drum. That is a mistake in my opinion. If you have to have that sound, then just get a vintage set that has holes or other issues like a re-wrap and then you can do your thing.
