1964 Volkswagen Type3 Notchback Barnfind Walkaround

Volkswagen Type 3 1500S ‘Notchback’ Ruby Red paint. One Owner as found (after trailering it home). Built in September 1963 known as a Push Button Notchback (earlier model with push button controls on the dashboard). Is an “S” model with deluxe trim. When it was picked up it did have original VW Canada winter tires on the rear and new spare tire. Barn Find was pulled from a detached garage as th et were remodeling their house was stored in the late 70s after the floors rusted and never moved until 2019/2020ish. Was found with a couple other non-VW including some similar vintage Merecedes.
Quick video tour to show what we have and where it starts. Hoping to update in following years after other projects get moving. Purchased from the original buyer and his family, was bought at Eglinton Caledonia Volkswagen Dealership, Ontario, Canada in 1963/64.

Very cool! My first car in high school was a ‘66 Type 3 Square Back. Miss that car-a joy to drive.

Brother!! This 64 is a beaut! That dash is mint! And funny how you have a Red needle clock and fuel gauge but white needle speedo, my 64 has the opposite, just a red needle speedo! Pretty nice car man, Ive restored worse! I have a floor pan replacement video using KlassicFab panels! Best of luck man! You are correct, an S model would be dual carbs.

My uncle contacted my dad about a 72 type 3 fastback that was in good condition. Apparently the first owner wanted to do something with it but didn't end up having it done because he died but the guys friend kept it for him in a lot behind his shop. Sold it for 2,500k It ran and had 45k miles, great condition and minimal rust we are the second owner and currently are replacing the engine because the original was very weak and barely worked now it has about 2080cc still waiting on the transmission tho.

I remember these cars but never the notch back version, and I think it's because they were' not imported into my country.

They were not nearly as popular as the squareback (wagon) and later fastback (hatch) versions.

The VW is worth way more as a parts car. Unless you're doing the body work it would be a small fortune to repair.
