Lovely little car. I had one in 1969 , slow, but fun and comfortable. Same color as this one. Danish winters weren’t kind to it. Pure nostalgia.😋

Hard to believe this was the forerunner of Audi today. Compare that with Audis now. No MMI back then, nor Virtual Cockpit, nor Presense, nor Tiptronic transmission. Yet this car definitely has a charm of its own and the two-stroke engine has a nice sound to it.

I bought a DKW junior 800cc engine from a breaker, tuned it and fitted it to a FRISKY family three, It did 125 mph, calculated power to weight was 130 hp as the car only weighed 8 cwt. I used an Albion sequential gearbox.

Really nice little car, and solid! Its construction allows for some areas of severe rust potential, and its still very solid and nice! Would be really fun to drive!

They started in Germany over 150 years ago as DKW means "Steam Povwred Vehicles...." than they changed over 100 years ago to two-stroke cars... best two-stroke cars ever made.... front wheel-drive, brakes not in the wheels but near the engine.....ALL OF THEM just racing cars.... in the 50ties in South America at Tran-sameriana Race (Ocean to Ocean) a 2-stroke DKW-Car designed in the 30ies blew off a Porsche.... After the war DKW-Engineers saved Volkswagen from bancrupcy... (DKW-Engineers designed the Golf) and the first AUDI was a BEAUTIFUL DKW-Car with put in a 4-Stroke Engine from Mercedes....

DKW ALWAYS was just DKW.... means "Steam Powered Vehicles...". Dkw-Engineers designed the VW-Golf (front driven and DKW-Sporty....) and the first AGAIN "AUDI" was just a SUPERP EXISTING FULL-DESIGNED-AND-BUILD-DKW-Car with a Mercedes Engine put inside.... later sold to Volkswagen.....

just to ad some details for the uninitiated.. the cooling system does not have a water pump that's why the radiator is so large as it works on the thermo syphon principal. There is no complicated distributor only points for the three coils and the engine only has seven moving parts. Three cylinders with two stroke firing makes it as smooth as a conventional six. These cars also have a chassis with transverse leaf springs plus the early use of rack and pinion steering.

Hood coming up is mean stuff ... my father had an F12 - no trouble there .. and later an Audi Super 90 F 103 .. which was fast like hell and needed hoodstraps for that problem .. to think doing solid 160kmh for hours fully loaded in spanish summer . on retreaded tires 😓 ... and b.t.w. the steering wheel was shaped to comply with the 'Wirtschaftswunder' upsizing ;)

I ador, I owned 2 DKW : a 57's 3=6 and a 65's F12. Fabulous cars but the one I prefered was the 3=6, regarding to its engine's performances Sorry for you but the video's car it isn't a F12. The F12 has quite different rear lights, including reversing ones, right and left. ... and the F12''s roof is more angled, barely without the slightest curve. Best regards. Paul

@@gravelydon7072 NO !!! Every model had its name (written front and or back), each of them with its own body's characteristics - Very first Junior 2 cylinders of 660 cc - Junior 741 cc and 34 cv - Junior de Luxe 796 cc and 34 cv Then ... - F12 889 cc and 40 cv - F12 Roadster 889 cc and 45 cv - F11 who was a F12 "limited" in 796 cc and 34 cv - And finally the F12 with the Roadster's engine power of 45 cv But, as we can read in this video's title, a Junior, de Luxe and F12 has never existed, these are 3 different models. 1965 godine imao sam DKW JUNIOR koristio sam mešavinu benzina i ulja u procentu 5%Automobil je ubrzo zaribao i stao .Zapekli su lageri nba radilici. MORAO SAM ZAMENITI RADILICU MOTORA SA LAGERIMA I KLIPNJAČAMA .- Što malo nije koštalo. DKW 1000S JE POSEDOVAO PUMPU za ulje pa je mešao benzin sa uljem u potrebnom i tačnom procentu i on je bio daleko bolji. Danas bi takodje voleo da imam ovaj automobil. Zoran

Cool little car. Great shape for it's age. Looks like a miniature 1955 or 56 Ford. For God's sake man! Be careful with that beautiful example. A fine example of what you can sign up for a 7 year wait of your fine car available for order in the eastern workers paradise. There was a Zodiak or some such English car that resembled the style of a 1956 Ford. Anglia, Zodiak, Prefect.

Gregory Timmons DKW was made in (then) West Germany. I Think you are confusing it with Wartburg, IFA and Trabant. IFA was split from DKW before the war. Consul and Zodiac were British Ford models.
