1963 Buick Riviera 401 cu/in Start Up, Exhaust, and In Depth Review

Hello and welcome to Saabkyle04! KZread's largest collection of automotive variety! In today's video, we will take an up close and personal in depth look at the first generation 1963 Buick Riviera. GM's first "personal luxury car". Designed for those looking for luxury and style with a thirst for performance. With dramatic styling for 1963 and arguably one of the nicest looking interior's from the 60s, the Riviera was definitely ahead of it's time. Design cues can even be seen with the last generation (8th gen) riviera from 1995-1999. Potent 401 cu/in (6.6) and automatic transmission, a timeless classic! During this presentation, we will take a 1st person look at what the vehicle is all about beginning with the start up, performance data, fuel economy, the occasional track data, and build quality. Also, I will teach you how to use most of the interior and exterior features in a detailed fashion, that before, you could only get from going to a dealership yourself! Throughout the video, I will highlight key styling and unique differences about the vehicle, any available options, and of course it would not be an enthusiast car video without the good ole engine portion with rev and exhaust note with interior and exterior perspectives. A thorough tour/review of this car designed to give others a greater overall appreciation of the vehicle.
FOR MORE INFORMATION ABOUT THE CHANNEL SEE BELOW: In this channel you will find in depth reviews/tour of automobiles from all over the world, presented in a more detailed fashion than ever before. Basically, this gives the viewer the chance to view the most detailed 1st person look you can get without going to an actual dealer yourself! Every video is consistent in the way I present so viewers know what to expect in my presentations. I treat every vehicle with the same respect whether a 1960 Chevrolet Impala SS or the 2012 Lamborghini Aventador. I film all types of vehicles from past, present, and future while broadening the knowledge of the automotive enthusiast. You will see everything from vintage, brand new, exotic, mainstream, old, etc. I am very proud of this channel and have built it up from amateur videos years ago to what you see today. I wanted to share my love for the automotive world with the rest of the world. Be sure to explore the massive video variety, have fun and enjoy The Driver's Seat of KZread!

Kyle, Power Steering and brakes were standard equipment on all first gen Riviera's. The 63 only came with the Dynaflow Transmission. There was no 3 speed auto option in 63. The 64 used the new to GM ST400 transmission. And, in 1965 that same transmission offered the unique "Switch Pitch" feature.

Correct about the transmission. . He also said A/C was standard but it was optional at extra cost in those days. Even in Cadillac.

Why dont auto makers make interiors like that anymore. journalists say audi and mercedes have high quality interiors but this is just on another level

You ask why? The question is very complex and requires detail. It is not because automakers just decided to use cheap plastic that made them do it. The American car market was opened up to cheap German, Japanese and Korean cars and in turn were give special tax trade agreements that enabled them to sell cars in America far cheaper than American cars. And then on top of that government regulations then forced manufacturers in America to produce products with very very strict conditions and would punish those that did not conform while at the same time cheap imported cars did not have to meet have of those regulations making them able to produce cars far cheaper again. Auto makers today would be punished by environment regulations if most of their cars used leather interiors because they would argue having to many cows is bad for the environment.

Great video - '63-'65 Riviera was the best of the breed and one of the greatest vehicles GM ever produced. I love the lines of this car, the rough rumble of the Nailhead V8 and the jet-age styling cues. For a long time, GM was incapable of putting together a decent interior, but in the early 60s that was not the case at all. The inside of this car is just as gorgeous as the outside, maybe even moreso...

These really are gorgeous cars. Everytime I think of what 60s Buick I want, I always seem to lean towards Wildcat convertibles but the first gen Rivieras really are about as perfect as you can get.

Yes, the cars from the 60s and 50s were like steel rolling sculptures. You could tell the make & model from a 1/4 mile away. What a contrast to today's "modern" generic blob beans and trucksters.

These were beautiful cars designed by Bill Mitchell who was also a Corvette designer. The headlamp bezels were chromed metal on these and weighed about 10 lbs., the HVAC vents were also chromed metal and as you saw real wood was also used. Today you would have to buy a Rolls Royce or a Bentley to get such quality touches.

The story goes that Bill Mitchell was impressed by a Rolls-Royce he saw in London and thought if he could combine the looks of a 'Roller' with the style of a Ferrari he'd be on to a winner. He was spot on!

My son has one, and I love to go with him because everyone is watching us, stop us to ask about the car, we are a show on wheels. A neighbor retired and sold everything, but he wanted someone to appreciate the car and sold it to 4 t. because my son liked the car a lot. One day a man stopped us in a beautiful Ferrari and told him that if he sold because he would like because it was the first car to drive. Same year 1963
