1962 Tommy Hunt - I Just Don’t Know What To Do With Myself
Музыка
One of a number of Bacharach & David ballads that would have to wait for a later Dionne Warwick version (1966) to turn it into a Top 40 record hit in the U.S. (listen here: • 1966 HITS ARCHIVE: I J... )
Pop Chart Peaks: Cash Box & Music Vendor 93, Billboard 110
The original 45rpm single was issued on Scepter 1236 - I Just Don’t Know What To Do With Myself (Hal David-Burt Bacharach) by Tommy Hunt, conducted by Burt Bacharach, produced by Leiber & Stoller, recorded April 1962

Beautiful version.
GOD---This i pure Magic. With that golden voice, has to be the best ever version,of all time & what a great tune. From a mad keen 77yo Aussie fan.
Hunt was a tremendous singer. This should have been a big hit.
THIS is THE version. God rest ye, Tommy Hunt. Thrilled to have played this original version on the radio when new, thinking I wished I'd written it.
Classic, written by a Burt Bacharach sang with such emotion, magical ❤
Pure class
Background vocals by Dee Dee Warwick and Dionne
fantastic version!
This is the version used on my Burt Bacharach 3 cd collection.
The White Stripes and Elvis Costello (I believe) also did good covers.

Also, Dusty Springfield's version reached #3 in England in 1964. And let's not forget Cameron Diaz's (intentionally bad) karaoke version from "My Best Friend's Wedding" (1997)!

Look for Big Maybelle's version! Dionne Warwick and Cissy Houston did it as well and also Chuck Jackson. All great!

I believe this is the initial rendition.
Mikey's Oldies But Goodies.
Although this is a very clear recording, I still prefer the Dusty Springfield version of around 1964 (kzread.info/dash/bejne/c6mEsdmeXZWriaQ.html). Her voice and the arrangement made it a hit in several countries.

Dusty got the blue print and her voice did a lot for the music.
What about the Chuck Jackson version from 1962 that is named as the original on Secondhandsongs and Wikipedia?

Thanks, Wolfgang. Either I missed that information along the way or it may have been revealed sometime after I originally put this list together some years ago.

Need to check. As a radio personality at the time, I seem to remember Hunt being the original release. Nothing against the amazing Mr. Jackson, though!
I much prefer the Dusty Springfield verson
