Poor starting like that, especially after sitting a long time, indicates air in the fuel in the head. Check all your fuel fittings first, then I would suspect a pinhole in a line. Don't think it would be an injector problem.

Wouldn’t that mean if air can get in fuel can get out and “make oil”? I’ve not observed any of that but would be very concerned if it was. This rough start issue is rare but more common in the winter. How do you go about finding a pinhole?

"Making oil" would mean that fuel can leak into the engine. That is possible but not necessarily the case. It possibly could be an injector nozzle that isn't sealing properly and bleeding out when it sits for awhile. Just running a good injector cleaner through it and running it hard for awhile might cure it if that is the case. If one of the under-cover lines are loose or cracked it will usually "make oil" quickly and it is easy to pull the valve covers and look for places on the lines that have had the oil washed off. This will indicate a leak. If there is a pinhole in a hose, it may not show at all on the outside. Especially if it is a suction line. Can be hard to find. The good part is that if it's sucking air from a line, it may be annoying, but it's not going to hurt anything. Good luck! ps: if it gets worse it'll be easier to find! Lol 🤣😂

This takes weeks or a month + to get like this. I don’t think it happens when warm out. Only cold starts after sitting a long while.

Kind of a buzz kill after all of the hard work that the freaking whistle is still there. Is that an aftermarket window?

@@ThisOldBus As a last resolve have you placed tape over every seam as a temporary thing to eliminate areas so as not to go through the door seal fiasco again even though it did need to be repaired properly? I'm very curious as to where it's coming from.

I had a length of rubber hose with me on the test drive which I used as a stethoscope. I’ve got an idea of where, just not sure what I’m going to do to fix it.

i can tell you have yet to try the newspaper trick, keep on tryin, you will come around

I did with the old gasket, it was tight. I will again here.

Did Scott Crosby run a overhead on it and tune it up when he was there?

Joe ran the rack on it a year or so back - he’s mechanic that I introduced Scott to that helped with his dropped valve when he was here. But yeah, I think something’s up with it and even though it clears up I should get it checked out.

It doesn't seem that bad to me. The 2 strokes are 1930s technology with no starting aids like glow plugs or grid heater. I bet it starts with no issues when it gets 10-15 degrees warmer. *but if I were to check anything, I'd pull the injectors and check the spray pattern. IIRC Scott checked the compression on your motor and it was good.
