A lot of folks are bagging on Lou for not knowing subject matter so much, and yes, he does get distracted by stickers and badges and shiny stuff. Lol. BUT. He is out there videoing this stuff, and posting this stuff for US! He is NOT sitting on his butt, but is actually attempting to learn things and share knowledge. I often try to fill in the blanks where I can on his videos and he’s always been appreciative. I for one am glad he goes to the trouble of tracking down the owners to get these gems on camera.

1961 was my first Indy 500 that I attended so I got to see that car race, along with 31 other Offies and one Cooper. Love the sound of those engines. What real race cars should sound like. Mean!

The bumper on the back end was not there to protect against racetrack hits, it was there to protect the bodywork when the car was pushed by a riding lawn tractor.

Reading an article in Road & Track, I learned another use for the rear bumper on older Indy cars. In sprint cars (which were sometimes run at Indy in the 1950s and before), the cars have no starters, clutches or transmissions. Therefore, they have to be bump-started, which means being pushed by another vehicle. The "back bumper" is probably a carry-over from those days.

Too bad the interviewer doesn't' know anything about race cars, "let's take a look at the engine, you mentioned coil-over". and the mechanic had to point out that that term refers to the suspension!

Car is a copy of the original .It was made by Glen Nessicary. The real coil spring Watson roadster is owned by Bob Boyce of Indiana.

Lou has had a chance to know Bob and his bill thmoas cheetah. I helped restore the Watson raced by Rodger Ward. The only other Watson coil spring 1961 car is owned by Bob Mc Connel if my memory is correct.

A very GOOD copy none the less! With a REAL Offy, I would have NO shame in owning a car a correctly done as this! FYI, I certainly would wrap the center of the steering wheel for hand protection! Yes, I understand these cars are not involved in all-out hammer down racing anymore, but I HAVE raced for decades and I KNOW what can happen to hands and fingers with an unprotected steering wheel center, even when wearing gloves.
