My gramps had one of these GTs. LUVed that little car.

Chrysler also made a couple of Hyper-Packs, aluminum 225 cubic inch motors. My best at the 1/4 mile was 11.06 on a winter morning at Fremont Raceway. Biggest problem was keeping air in the tires as low pressures were needed to get traction and not break the tire to rim seal. A friend and I ran the car at Bonneville in 1970 and got a one-way speed of 132 MPH. the clutch exploded and it was a one-way run. The car did make it through the measured mile. In fact, with a damaged clutch, (no release), we drove it 300 miles home rather slowly. That was the only failure of the car for the ninety thousand miles i had the car.

I enjoy your videos enormously. Feasting my eyes on vintage promotional print material is an absolute treat, and your accompanying commentary is equally informative and entertaining. I was a car kid before I was a car guy, and these take me back to a very happy time. Thanks!

My mother bought a new 62 Lancer GT.I learned to drive in that car.

Most people think this car looked ugly . But I liked them . I liked the 1960 Valiant the most . I liked the trunk lid on those . People got to remember that this can went under the drawing board in 1958 as a sketch first . The Chrysler Corp wanted an international car that would satify other counteries as well and in those times any International was the in thing during those times . England , France , Italy , Rome , Spain on and on . The jet Airliners was at full force , So travel was fast going over the pond . Even Russia was an in thing sort of . So during this time in the late 50's and vary early 60's this car was fitting . Chrysler wanted a fitting car for the time and they wanted something that was a work of Art like italian cars . So for that effort in doing just that Chrysler did a geat job and the car was fitting . After 1963 cars became bland with no styling . Just a BOX with an engine and seats . Like the Dart .

I had a 1962 Lancer GT...epic little car!

My dad had a 62 GT, white with red interior. It didn’t have the hyper pack, but it did have the aluminum block 225. That made it a little peppier. In the winter, when the car was warmed up from driving and you stopped, say at the grocery store, that aluminum block would cool down and you had to start all over again with the heater.

I had a 1962 Lancer GT. LUVed that little car with the epic 225 slant-6.

Hi Char, nice video! Not to change the subject, but in 1960 when Ford first came out with the Falcon, it was not available with any fancy trim offerings. It took Lee Iacocca some time to convince Henry Ford II to come out with the Falcon Futura that had more deluxe trim. Please reply. Dave...

I saw a Holley fuel injection in a '62 Lancer.

I always thought they wete ugly also until i ended up up in a situation where i needed a car and needed it now and a buddy had one of these for sale cheap so i bought it, and low and behold it was fun to drive wasnt bad on gas then my opinion on it changed, i liked it. But for some reason i could never get to the bottom of, for some reason after you turned it off, it randomly wouldnt start. Until it sat overnight, and you never new when it was going to do it. So i regretfully had yo get rid of it 😢

My grandparents had a Dodge Polara 1963 with 225 Slant 6 Holey 1 bbl! Was a hard car to start in winter! Don’t know why my grandfather didn’t get 318 V8! It was an oil leaker too!

It is kind of cool you bring up the cost averages or cost comparison from 1962 to 2023 . The car cost $3.000 = $31,000 . That is what I paid for my wifes 2022 Ford Bronco ( NOT SPORT) Base with four options . Home Price $13,000 = $124, 519 . Gas was .28 cents = $2.79 . So now we are up there even more about another 15 to 20 percent . Average home in the mid west is up to $170.000 and gas is up above 3.00 a gal . This is for older homes that are 50 years old and older . Not new homes . Average cost for new home is above $230.000 now . Food cost is up 30 percent . The average working class was about $3,000 a year in 1962 . Now it's still depressed even more compare to what it was . Average wage now is about $20.00 an hr . If you do the math that $20.00 an hr in 2023 = to $1.75 hr in 1962 . This was the going wage for blue collar worker not the white collar . The suit guys was getting something like $20 to $150 an hr the CEO with upper sales and investors . I should say the the 20% ers .back then . Now there is only less than 10% and more like the 2 % . They make $1,000 to $10,000 an hr I would guess and more .

very interesting, lots of cool info. Watched just to see what it was all about even though i always thought they were ugly as hell. Just one of those cars that never grew on me. If it offends anubody it is in the same group i put the C8 vette in so there's that. If i dont feel it in a few months they are dead to me but doesn't mean the are all bad

I thought the upper model was the 270 but I see in the brochure it says 770🤪 This was known as the DeSoto Rebel in South Africa and continued until 1964

You don't talk about the differences. Which model had 170 cu and which had 225. Aluminum engine and hi pro avail too

I sure wish I had a super pack on my1964 valiant convertible ,that foolish 170 cu in. was a waste of time!! should have been dropped after the first year! cheers 🍻
