I'm pretty sure the first two minutes show the stretch of the (now) A52 over the Ruhr near Essen-Kettwig. The bridge is the "Mintarder Ruhrtalbrücke". At first I thought it was somewhere along the A1 (since it is fairly hilly). But when I saw the yellow "Ruhrtal" sign, it couldn't be. This stretch of highway began life as the B288 (hence the yellow signs instead of blue) and was built between 1963 and 1966, when it was opened for traffic. The traffic on this side is heading Northeast. The arched overpass at the beginning is near the Auberg layby. It was "upgraded" to an Autobahn in 1971, first as the "A214", but from 1975 as the "A52".

Amazing that old tiny green Hanomag Garant truck from 1963 at 1:00, that went not faster than 75 km/h. So that the Opel Rekord A from 1964 (perhaps 1700s) has to change back to left behind the BMW Neue Class 1800 that pushes the VW Beetle 1200. Then fastly comes Ford Taunus 17M 1960 (P2) and afterwards Opel Kapitan 1964 ( KAD A Series). Followed by the new Beetle 1500 from 1968.

Love the old, squarish Opels with their big hoods and long trunks! Unlike today all modern cars have froggy butts! Except for Audi's and some Mercedes!

The most amazing thing for me was that back then, they just put equipment up to the start of the road for a construction site - instead of locking down a whole lane for it. Then again, those cars in the video are going....80? 90? maybe 100?

Amazing. German highways were so much better than american in 1960. Americans just started building them then.
