I was as a german exchange student 1991 at the age of 16 in this area, near Stockton, best time of my life. Visited San Francisco, Sacramento, Yosemito, Bear valley, Modesto, Pebble beach, 17mile drive, Carmel, Monterey. We drove around in a fat Chevrolet Suburban. What a time!

Even the shiny DC-8 engines had a magic touch! Flying was an adventure...
If you have a little extra money, a little extra time, California is just as beautiful as it always was. Love these old United Airlines Travelogues.

I missed the Central Coast. Twenty years ago. The movie Sideways showed Santa Barbara and Santa Ynez Valley made me homesick. I have visited California on numerous occasions in the past when I lived in Las Vegas

Several minutes spent showing Marineland, which is now long gone, with not even a mention of Disneyland or Knott's Berry Farm, which are still around and even back then were more well known and popular than Marineland.
I have always loved my state of California. Over 69 years, politics, earthquakes, modernization, etc hasn't damaged it too much. Lol

As of today (Aug 22, 2023) Downtown San Francisco is full of homeless people, druggie zombies and a plethora of closed retail outlets. Different from what it was only 20 years ago. Same goes for Los Angeles and San Diego.
Once upon a time! If these ppl saw Cali now they'd be clawing over each other trying to escape!

Good luck. They hate that time. It was so "oppressive." You couldn't crap on the sidewalk while nodding off on fentanyl brought across the open border. Those days are gone for good
