My personal favourite movement that came out of the 50's and 60's was American desert sled racing. When our client Charles came to us with the idea for his dream bike , a late model Triumph for the reliability and ease of use, but with all the style queues of the 60’s desert racer. "I'm in, lets do it" was the only appropriate response.
This build challenged for me in a way I wasn't expecting. These classic desert racers were slapped together by garage builders, and that "slapped together" aesthetic was difficult to wrap my head around. There were some very wrong pieces on this bike, and it's glorious!
For a closer look at the build head over to see the picture gallery over on our website:

Beautiful bike. Sounds lovely. I myself am not big on the white seat. Black with some old school shape, would be my vote. Take it out in the dirt, see how she does!

Great job guys, only two things that it needs , a bash plate , to protect the lower part of the engine, and back brake caliper needs to be on top of the disc , not on the bottom, well done on the build,

Yo PBM, Desert Sleds were born in the early 1950s. I was born 1955 as I was growing up & beginning to ride desert sleds went well into the 60s in early '70s. I began motocross racing on Japanese Motorsickles but sadly never owned a desert sled. Great Build! I'm getting used to the white seat 😂 ✌️👍

Always great to hear our work is motivating guys to get in the garage and build something. Cheers to that! I think if I had this style bike I would go either a proper vintage bike (like our 1973 T140 Sled) or something more actually suited to dirt. After wrestling my HD Sportster around Tasmania for wide of the mark, I learnt dirt bikes are dirt bikes for a good reason haha

How do you go about Rego for this thing and how far does it learn on side stand without the bit of metal under it, also what's the speed rating on those tyres?

  • @PurposeBuiltMoto

We go get a road worthy and rego it, simple. The lean is fine, we just use a block so it looks nicer in the video. If you want a speed rating go check out Pirelli

@@PurposeBuiltMoto ok so exhaust, indicators, no reflectors at all, wrong speed rated tyres, no chain guard just to name a few. So how the hell did it get a roadworthy?
