Absolutely love this video. Brought me way back. I made this exact dress in 1963 to my high school prom. I made it out of pink satin with a lace overlay that was scalloped on the bottom edge. The lace fabric was 48 in wide enabling me to use it over the entire skirt with the embroidery going up from hem. I made the jacket the same with scallop along the hem. I was so proud of this and loved it so much, I shortened the skirt at the waist bringing the scallop up to below my knees. Then added spaghetti straps to the strapless top and wore it for graduation. I was able to wear it to friends weddings that next couple years. I'm 79 now, have no idea what happened to it but seeing this video gave me warm fuzziness. Thank you and you looked fabulous. ❤

Love that old Kenmore. Just proves a seamstress doesn't need a new machine with all the fancy bells and whistles to make a beautiful creation.

When my grandma was downsizing I claimed her big sewing machine. It's a old Bernina, and just works, and can go through almost anything. I've made so many cosplays with that machine, I'm gonna keep it going as long as possible

Same! My main machines are both Singer - one from 1963 and the other from 1936.... both of them still sew like champs!!!

Young lady it is a Blessing to see someone so young keeping a skilled tradition alive. My mother was a Tailer. Thank you for sharing.

My groom of two weeks gave me a sewing machine ( Designer) for our first Christmas together in 1979. I made both my younger sister’s wedding dresses, most of my maternity clothes, baby/toddler/up to about age ten when my daughter decided she wanted clothing from a store. Our Swiss exchange students silk sage prom dress, my mother of the bride in a dark brown silk, many chair/sofa covers and sun shades. I love coming up with an idea and making it happen. This young woman has skilzzzzzzz.

I'm 68 and I was gifted a Singer in the mid 70s and my mother replaced her early 1950s Singer with a Kenmore around the same time. I've always wished I had the old Singer she replaced - it's what I learned to sew on and made so many things. I still have both my Singer and her Kenmore. I've only come close to replacing with a fancier machine once, but decided I really didn't need it. I love the older, simpler machines - the ones where you could leave the needle down, lift the presser foot and turn the fabric for beautifully sharp corners!

I received my Kenmore as a high school graduation gift. I will attend our 50th class reunion this week, and she still runs like a champion!
Oooo la la! You look like a French impressionist painting. Absolutely gorgeous! I am so happy that you finally went to a Frocktails party! You know you had a good time when you almost lose your voice the next day! LOL! Those poppy gloves are so creative and I love the touch of sequins that you added to enhance your natural sparkle! Thank you for sharing!

Beautiful outfit. You are very talented. I’m 74 years young and you remind me of the skills and talent my mother had. She made clothing including winter coats for her four daughters. Today is actually the 13th anniversary of her passing. Was a wonderful treat to watch you at the sewing machine it was like watching her. Thank you 🙏 I hope you continue to go out and wish you much success.

A high school friend and I were talking about how it was when we were in high school back in the very early 70's. Our mothers made our clothes. We had a sewing chest at the house with extra fabric so when you needed something in a hurry you might be able to find some fabric and notions already on hand. It wasn't unusual for Mom to "run one up" a day or two before a special school event.

My mother and grandmother started teaching me to sew when I was ten by first pinning patterns to fabric. I first helped grandma make one of her bib aprons and was so proud of it. By the time I was in high school I made most of my skirts, tops and dress's. I made all my children's clothes until the boys got into zipper pants. Sears "tough skins" for boy's were indestructable. I couls not match that.

My mother had a seamstress and I remember this dress when I was a child. Mama was a mix of Elizabeth Taylor and Jackie Kennedy. Mama passed away 2yrs ago and was still very beautiful,a true Southern Belle. I also have the exact same sewing machine!

It's amazing to me how few girls and women wear slips any more! They can actually be a little hard to find. Clothes look so much smoother and nicer with a slip.
OMG you look like a princess and the hair is perfection. Now that I'm old, I really wish I had paid attention and learned to sew when my mom tried to teach me. You're not simply making clothes, you're creating an art piece. That fabric is magical and you look so beautiful. Well done 🙏🏻♥️✌🏻
Beautiful. I appreciate the fact that you take the time to model the dress for us.
That dress is so beautiful. You look absolutely gorgeous in it. Thank you for sharing the process. Hope you had a great time at Frocktails
Serena, Your dress is gorgeous and you look stunning in it. I'm glad you had such a great time and showcased your skills.
My Southern Louisiana Grandmother had my dressess made because I was so skinny and I remember Simplicity in the 1960's. Wow, and today I am drawn to the vintage style. Thanks for this great video 👍🎉🤗💌
That’s a beautiful dress!! I so admire those like you, who can pull it off! ❤❤
Oh wow! It's beautiful! Thanks for sharing! Hope you feel better!
That is absolutely gorgeous!!! The belle of the ball. That would be thousands of dollars in a store.
GORGEOUS!!!!! We should be teaching this talent in school. Keep posting! God Bless!
This is super cute! I'm also in my sewing outfits for events era, it's nice to have something specific to wear things to. I hope you had a wonderful time
Oh my! You look lovely! How much fun. I’m 74. I wore dresses like that to dances and proms when I was young! Hugs, treen 💕💕💕
I was wearing dresses like that in the late 50s and early 60s. Mom made them, even after I was married and moved cross country. Those were the days of beautiful dresses.
Beautiful you really customized the look to your personality and figure. Clothes look so much better properly fitted.
So glad to “hear” that you had so much fun 💙 I bet it was wonderful to be amongst creative folks 💙💙💙💙
The gown is absolutely gorgeous, as is the model. You did a wonderful job.
The gown is Absolutely beautiful. I sewed a lot when I was a teenager.
New subscriber! Absolutely beautiful dress on you. My mother was a tailor for 70 years. I so admire people who have talent and patience to do this kind of art❣️👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

You are a joy to watch. And extremely talented. Your dress is beautiful.
You are amazing. The world awaits someone like you 🤗
Do go out and enjoy yourself! Thanks for including us in your make.
Soo beautiful!! The fabric, the sequins, the bow 🎀 I have this pattern in my stash to eventually dip my foot into trying a “wiggle dress” (as my hips are so much wider than my waist so I figured this silhouette would fit). I‘m so happy you made this pattern! 🩵

You are super talented. I love vintage the fabric is beautiful who would have guessed. It was the perfect choice love the dress
Wonderful skills demonstrated here , lovely dress too, and brings back wonderful memories of sewing! I made most of my young son's Halloween costumes and school history costumes, decades ago... whatever he wanted, I made.
Wow!!! And thank you for sharing your “getting out of the comfort zone” story. It resonates and it really helps! You look fantastic!!
That dress is absolutely gorgeous! You did a fabulous job. You are amazingly talented And you look stunning In the outfit. Can't believe You did that in 4 .days.
Yas to that dress! I'm glad you're getting out. Atl Frocktails seems like the most popular one.
Omg wow! I'm speechless.... Between the Monet water color fabric and the Kenmore that I grew up with, I was in 7th heaven! Also, in my family it was kind of like a bizarre tradition to sew as fast as they could. I have never seen anybody sew with speed like they did. This was unbelievably comforting!
The fabric is astonishingly beautiful just like the finished dress. I wish I could sew. You're very talented and have a good eye for Beauty. And you look gorgeous in it.
Very sweet outfit. Love it with the jacket too. Brings a nice balance to the whole silhouette and it’s a different one from most of what’s out there today. Very refreshing to see something different.
I like how you say, "Waspy Look"!!
Another winner 🏆
Oh girlfriend. I see. I’m 67 and have been sewing since I was 8 yo. Your gown is Not Only Lovely - But it looks Great on You !!!!!! Oh! You go girl ❤ 🎉 🥰
That turned out so pretty. Your boned bodice fits you better than I’ve seen couture worn on the red carpet. Thanks for sharing. PS: I learned to sew on my mother’s Kenmore. She sewed her clothes as well as for her 3 daughters and made all the curtains for her home. Seeing your machine just took me back in time.❤️
Love everything you make. ❤️ ❤❤
Oh my goodness!!! The dress is beautiful just like you!! Beautiful material, loved the poppies!!!! ❤️
gorgeous amazing talent in your eyes and hands......whoever taught you to sew deserves an award.
When I was in high school, I would leave the house at 7 AM for school, my mom would be getting the fabric out to make my dad a three piece suit, pants, vest and jacket. About 3PM I would walk in the house, and she would be hanging up the jacket. All the parts were done, lined, buttons and zippers and everything. I never learned how to do that kind of sewing, I'm lucking if I can get my machine to sew a straight line. You, my dear, are a Goddess with the sewing machine, I was in awe watching this video. You look beautiful, that dress was wonderful.
That is GORGEOUS!! Such a classy, feminine dress!❤
Love the pink bow detaill
Those old patterns bring back memories. I used to make my own clothes in high school in the 60s. But I wasn’t very good at it so they looked home made. lol.
