1960 Chevrolet Apache

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

This is a video of me starting my 1960 Chevy Apache 1/2 ton longbed pickup truck. The 235 Inline 6 purrs like a kitten. I hadn't started it in a week or so.

I have a 1961 chevy apache 20 and it is very cool and a gorgeous truck. A tip is that ticking noise, I put oil in my truck and it stopped doing it. By the way that is a georgous truck.

My dad had a '60 Apache 10 with a 261 and overdrive from '61 to '73. Your shot of stepping into the driver's seat brought back a lot of memories. Thanks.

I was going to jokingly say "what's that funny little knob for?", but apparently someone who really did wonder already asked. Oh well. I love the way the noises seem to echo in the cab of these old trucks. That and how you could probably grab a sleeping bag and camp out in the engine bay, because it's so huge. Back when trucks were trucks, not very heavy duty passenger vehicles...

I'm responding to some of the comments made here. For one, (Jotter324Studios) the mains are probably NOT going out. These trucks had mechanical lifters as opposed to hydrolic lifters. The sound you hear is normal to this engine. Second, Apache (TheAaronsway) is the brand name of this truck. I believe the Chevy Apache was built from 1957 thru 1963. I own a 1960 Chevy Apache C10 shortbed stepside with the 235 inline six myself.

Sounds like a bit of valvetrain noise, next oil change, substitute a quart of oil for a quart of lucas oil stabilizer. Works like a charm.

Lucas is bunk, just heavier oil. The valve tick is the mechanical lifters needing adjustment.

If that's your only issues you have it easy. 60 and 61 are the only years I want cause of the hood.

I agree, it made oil pressure a little slow. Could be he has heavy oil in it , or is really cold out. My ford 300 six did that, you could hear wrist pin chatter/ slap, lingering a few extra seconds after start up.

Looks good! The button he is messing with is the choke. These days it's handled by fuel injection or by an electric choke

Ironclad I figured it was a normal noise. The old "garbage wagon" (we used to run it down the hill for dumping trash) was a forest green 1960 just like this one. It had a Truetone radio with a built in speaker as a retrofit. It sounded almost exactly like this and made a vrooming buzz noise when it accelerated.

I have to opportunity to buy a 61 Chevy Apache 10 for 1,000. It has a little rust on the fenders but not much more than that. It currently does not run. He stated it did run when he parked it 6 years ago. would this be a good deal?

If it is a complete truck I would jump on it. Just because it hasn't run in 6 years is not that big a deal. Even with a bad engine it is undervalued.

Offenhauser made a performance intake manifold, and header exhaust tubes in dual style were available. Oh, clifford research made a high perf. . Cam for the 6 also. I did a 250 cu.in c-10 engine build years ago.

A cable operated choke. It closes a flapper in the top of the carburator throat that partially shuts off in comming air , to make the in comming mixture more "rich" than all air. Cold engine dont like lotta air and no gas. Pull cable, pump gas pedal 3-4-5 times when cold walla, quick start!
